Watch out for these con artists!

I popped in because they were advertising "Monday to Thursday 12 - 4 pm a pint of any lager ale or cider £4.95" on a Duvel ( a Belgian Golden Ale) notice board.

So I enter and order a pint of Leffe Blonde. They are after all called Brouge and promote themselves as a Belgium Pub....

When I go to pay they don't show me the amount being charged but hold up the card reader for me to tap....

I ask to see how much and it's almost £9

I say about their special offer and the response is "Leffe Blonde is neither a Lager or an Ale"

What?????

I don't know where these guys were educated but in my opinion there's 3 types of beers, based on the brewing process and if you do an internet search you'll find something like this:

There are three main families of beer based on fermentation: top-fermented, bottom-fermented, and spontaneous fermentation. While there are many different styles of beer, they all fall under one of these three categories. Within the top and bottom-fermented families, there are further distinctions, such as ales and lagers, each with numerous sub-styles.

Here's a more detailed breakdown: Top-fermented beers (ales): These beers are fermented at warmer temperatures using top-fermenting yeast, leading to a more complex and fruity flavor profile. Examples include IPAs, stouts, and various Belgian ales.

Bottom-fermented beers (lagers): These beers are fermented at cooler temperatures using bottom-fermenting yeast, resulting in a crisp and clean flavor profile. Examples include Pilsners, Bocks, and pale lagers.

Spontaneous fermentation: This type of fermentation uses wild yeast and bacteria instead of a specific brewery yeast, leading to unique sour and tart flavors. Examples include Gueuzes and Lambic.

Note: The Abbey of Leffe blonde beer is a highly fermented beer to be savoured. The ingredients are light malt, corn, water, hops and yeast

I don't know about you readers.... But I've always thought of Leffe...

Had been in the past, but stopped going. Not sure why really, and now really don't know why. my wife and I have been 5 times in the past couple of months. I'm fussy. I'm critical where food is concerned. I can cook to a good standard. I have eaten at Michelin Starred restaurants. Simply put I enjoy my food. The fact I have been back 5 times speaks for itself. I cannot fault this place. TBH - I almost don't want to write this review as it may spoil my chances of getting a table in the future - but they deserve to be praised. Whoever the head chef is - I bow my hat. I have tasted around 10 dishes now ( I have to taste my wife's food). EVERY single dish has been balanced, and has so much flavour. Even the simple starters are fantastic. Calamari. Be honest - a simple dish. But having had it twice - cooked perfectly both times. The garlic aioli - perfect balance. The lamb shank - a commonly served dish - is matched with a jus and mash that is perfect. Honestly - I know it should be a simple dish - but it was one of the best plates of food I have ever eaten in any restaurant ever. The balance of all the elements are sublime. Now add this with a wine list that is inspired ( try the Nederberg Cabernet Sauvignon - 'Oh my life' ) and a beer list that is beyond any that I have ever seen. Sound good ? You haven't included staff that are attentive, informed, friendly and genuinely nice people. As I say, I almost don't want to post this review, I'd hate to think I'd done anything to dent my chances of getting a table here in the future. But the fact is the folk here deserve to be thanked and recognised for what they...

Came along based on Google reviews as we were passing through the area and thought we’d give it a try. Firstly, it was really busy when we walked in so had to wait a little before being seated. We were seated to a table that was only set for 3! We were a group of 5. I ordered a tea which came out luke warm and wasn’t pleasant to drink. We all ordered roast dinners that were nice and hot and tasted good. The only issue was my mums roast came out 5/6 minutes after ours. Desserts were delicious however service wasn’t the best, we’d already seen 5 separate waiters/waitresses by that point and the coffee we ordered was forgotten about and when we asked again it did come out. It wasn’t charged on the bill which was a good gesture Set menu is good value for money however ours wasn’t billed as a set menu but when mentioned it was rectified. Lastly, Discretionary service charge was £11 which is quite high but I think that was due to the amount of staff they have working at one time. Food was good so had no problem in paying and service was good a the start but definitely could...

The set up looks nice and inviting, but unfortunately my experience here was not good. I walked in, ordered a glass of wine at the bar and informed the bartender that I wanted to order some food. He said I needed to sit down to get a food menu and be served. I then went to the outside seating area to wait and enjoy my cold rosé in the sun. Fast forward: THIRTY minutes and a glass of wine later. No one came to offer me a menu, or another drink, or ask if everything was alright. To make things worse.. turns out I had left my little notebook at the bar when I ordered my drink. A waiter brought the notebook out, asked if it was mine, handed it to me and then promptly went back inside. Just like that! I didn't even have half a chance to tell him I wanted to eat. I felt totally unwelcome. Disappointing service for a space that's actually quite lovely inside and outside. Not good at all.

A mixed experience, the food was not as good as it should have been. The menu was very diverse, however the food was not really up to scratch. Two of us had mussel/moules for starters which where superb, everything when downhill from there. The fish pie was mostly potatoes and not much fish and little sauce. The fries were all clearly frozen (sorry no excuse in a Belgian restaurant for not getting fries right). I feel that it would be better to narrow down the menu to fewer superb dishes.
