Great Atmosphere at Thatched House Pub
I was invited by a friend to meet up at Thatched House Pub for some food and a few games of pool. I initially expected British pub food, but to my surprise, the menu had a African food (maybe east). In the evening, the venue even transforms into a nightclub, making it a versatile spot for a night out.
My friend ordered me a fish dish with a rich, savoury sauce on the side, and I have to say—the fish was fantastic! Ordering is straightforward; you go up to the bar, place your order from the menu, and let them know where you’re sitting. The staff then bring your food directly to your table. I could see why my friend visits often—not just because of the great food, but also for the welcoming atmosphere. The pub had a friendly vibe, and with pool tables available in both the main and back areas, there was plenty to do.
We played in the back area, but since it was the middle of winter, it was freezing out there. Luckily, they have outdoor heaters—you just need to ask at the counter for them to be turned on. It’s a great place to unwind, enjoy good food, and have a casual evening before the nightlife kicks in.
The menu offers a decent selection of East African dishes, all well-seasoned and flavourful. Portion sizes are fairly average, but the quality of the food makes up for it.
Later in the evening, the venue transitions into a club. I didn’t stay too late, leaving around midnight, but I noticed staff preparing the space—removing the pool tables from the main hall to make way for a dancefloor.
One minor downside is the parking situation. If you don’t arrive early, finding a space is a nightmare. Even getting there early doesn’t guarantee parking, so it’s best to plan ahead with alternative transport options.
Overall, Thatched House Pub is a solid choice for a pub experience with a unique twist. Whether you’re stopping by for a drink, a meal, a few games of pool, or a night out, it offers a great mix of food, entertainment,...
Read moreI didn't come here for a meal so can't say anything about it. I came here for the night club experience. Same as previous visits. The music is good and the DJs are great. The crowd is always buzzing and maybe sometimes a little too crowded but it's great atmosphere. The only thing is the crowd is very diverse. The punters are usually from all over Africa so the DJs always try to play music to appeal to everyone no matter which African country they're from in addition to some western 90s music or other western oldies. So if you're looking for strictly afrobeats to groove to, Thatched house may not be the place for you. Other than that,it's great place to go night clubbing. There's parking on site until it's full then there's parking on nearby surroundings. I think entry is free till 12am. Gotta double...
Read moreThis place is horrendous. Kept dark even during the day to hide all the dirty floors and walls, sticky tables, smells old etc. Yes the food is tasty but doesn't mean it's healthy. Black over cooked bbq meat, dry roast potatoes and chicken, salad wasn't fresh and presentation isn't great. I guess they don't bother as there is no competition. Our order took 1hr 15mins and some of us left to find a restaurant nearby. My two stars are for staff behind the bar as they work hard. There was one menu that was dirty and ripped, honestly I was so embarrassed as I had guests to entertain. This pub is way overdue for refurbishment. If you want a greasy man pub and don't mind smelling Bio from other men, or can't be bothered with all above then you will like it. Good football atmosphere but don't take your...
