So we booked a table for 7 people. 2 weeks in advance. Having visited previously we wanted to bring my inlaws for a Sunday lunch. We arrived exactly at 2 pm, which was our booked time, to be told our table wasnât booked for lunch, it was drinks only . They then said they had reserved our table correctly for lunch however somebody else had taken it and theyâd not noticed and taken their food order and it was now too late. On top of this they said there was a wait for the roasts of approx half an hour. We eventually found our own table and asked them to clear it which they did. They did not however come and clean the mayonnaise and ketchup that was spilt until Iâd asked them 3 times. The pub was not busy but they said theyâd had 2 tables of 10 in who had eaten all of the roast dinners! Bare in mind we had booked 2 weeks in advance specifically for Sunday lunch! Around 2.20 we went to order food, having taken ages because of no table being available to seat us all, lots of tables of 2 and 4 but none for more. Which is why I booked so far in advance! We were then told no more roasts could be ordered. I said that when we arrived we were told itâs a half hour wait, not that there was no roasts. They said sorry but the kitchen says no roasts! They said the manager would come and speak to us. I went back to my table and got new food orders and went back to order again. They then said now there was a delay on food! I ordered our food. No manager ever came to speak to us or apologise. It took over an hour for our food to arrive. Over an hour! In the meantime the waiter came over and said our food was just being prepared. I asked had they now started taking orders for roast dinners again and he said yes. He asked the kitchen if we could now have a roast but was told no as our food was already being prepared in the kitchen! Ten minutes later our food eventually arrives and at the same time, people who arrived around 10 minutes before our food was finally brought out were now being served lovely freshly cooked roast dinners!!!!!!! We had a 6 and 8 year old with us who were starving, plus my inlaws who were visiting. The whole thing was embarrassing for us. The staff did nothing to compensate, the manager couldnât be bothered to come over and apologise, it was absolutely terrible. And it made us feel so bad that we had put our inlaws through this after telling them we were coming somewhere weâd recommend. After arriving at 2pm, we got our food at 3.30pm! And it wasnât what we even wanted. Had we arrived at 3.15 we would have been able to order and been served a roast at the same time as we received our meal. But we were not allowed to order a roast however our food was finally ready at the same time as the fresh roast was also ready for any new customers! I will never visit again and will never recommend visiting this place. The staff were pleasant but junior and unable to do anything to help the situation and the manager simply couldnât careless! When ordering it quickly became apparent there wasnât a lot of food available - using the ember inns app, over HALF of the main menu wasnât available! Some of our party ended up with their third choice - had we known in advance (they could have called, or emailed as we booked ahead), we would have gone elsewhere! There was no sign on the bar or door to say this was the case either. After we had ordered and paid, we had to change our order again as it turned out what we had ordered for some starters wasnât available!
Starters came out over 30 minutes after ordering - one of our changes was clearly forgotten and wasnât brought out until after everyone else had finished their starters! Mains took a further 40 minutes to arrive! The food was either overcooked - the pies were disgusting, or food was missing items. The deriving staff were unhelpful and clearly not fussed. This, despite there only being 3 other tables seated in the restaurant. Loads of staff milling around but nobody actually helping the diners!
Drinks were similar - only 1 draught lager and 2 draught ciders were available. Most bottles were out of stock as well. No wonder the pub was basically empty the entire time we were there!
The duty manager did her best to address our concerns and gave us a free round of drinks and some desserts; but it took 3 and a half hours for us to get from entering the restaurant to finishing dessert and this was purely down to bad service - the general service provided by the waiting staff was appalling!
Nobody came to check on us, we were given starters but no cutlery, mains but no cutlery, condiments on the table were empty. We were even given another tableâs food at one point - which was then taken back off the table after we pointed out the mistake!    Read moreMy family and I visited your California bar in sutton on the 27th of February for a family meal as it was my daughters birthday. We have been eating in there regularly over the last few years and sometimes visit about twice a week always spending over at least £100 a time. The food and staff are userally very nice but we was very disappointed with everything on this occasion. Both of my daughters had chicken nuggets and chips for there dinner and there must off been about 5 or 6 chips on each plate which I thought was an absolute liberty. The nuggets looked like economy food as well. I had to then buy my daughter another meal as she was still hungry which cost me more money. My son, my husband and myself all had burgers that are meant to come with bacon but we was told that they had run out of bacon but we still had to pay the same price. How is this right that we are charged for something we never received and it's also not our thought. The meat in the beef burgers was full of fat and grissel and very chewy. When we complained to staff they was rude and kept laughing. We asked for the manager/chef three times and no one would get him. This place has really gone down hill. We are a family of five and we will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. But we would like some kind of compensation please as our meal came to over £122.00 and really wasn't worth even half of that.
