I came here last Saturday when the England game was on. I was so very impressed with everything! Where do I start?... Well the cider and beer are very good and poured to perfection ( As a former barmaid, I am less than impressed when my draught cider has no fizz!) I was served with a perfectly poured pint (and the lager was too!) I was happy already! Well, now it gets exciting!!. I ordered from the menu, a HUGE fish platter called 'Boat-trash' which was absolutely DELICIOUS!! It featured mussels (cooked to perfection!) with scampi, large, fresh prawns and squid, served in a wonderful sauce along with fresh chips and a superb, seaweed style salad. My partner and I devoured it! As if that wasn't delicious enough, we also ordered oysters... OMG... they were AMAZING!! Everything was beautifully presented and SO fresh. They also do lobster to order, which I sampled from my friend, and also was fabulous!! I met Ian and Vicky, who run this fantastic establishment and they are truly lovely!! They obviously care about their pub and customers and this is reflected in the great customer service and delicious food they serve. I've grown up and lived in South London all my life and have not found such a wonderful, real traditional pub like this in YEARS! Oh, and the beer garden is simply a wonderful little oasis. I'm taking my (very fussy) dad here tomorrow to sample the delights of this little pub. I can't wait to eat here again and introduce him to this gem of a pub. If you're lucky enough to be reading this review, then you're in for a treat! I've found my 'go-to' place! Enjoy...You cannot be...

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at The Conquering Hero, and I can confidently say it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. From the moment we walked in, things went downhill quickly.
First and foremost, the service was abysmally slow. We waited an unreasonable amount of time just to be acknowledged, let alone to receive our orders. It felt as though the staff were actively ignoring us, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy.
To make matters worse, we encountered an exceptionally rude man who claimed to be the owner. His attitude was shockingly unprofessional and dismissive. Instead of addressing our concerns politely, he seemed more interested in arguing and belittling us. It's baffling how someone in the service industry could be so antagonistic towards customers.
As for the food, it was an absolute disaster. The dishes were poorly prepared and virtually inedible. None of us could stomach more than a few bites. It's a rare feat for an establishment to fail so thoroughly on all fronts.
In summary, The Conquering Hero provided an experience that was anything but heroic. With terrible service, an exceptionally rude owner, and food that no one could eat, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Save your time, money, and sanity by...
Read moreReally cool pub and we would definitely be back for drinks.
The staff were friendly… a quirky atmosphere which we really liked. Seems like a wholesome family run pub.
I can’t say I would be in a hurry to eat there again… although maybe it would be worth giving it another go. I’m not sure if we caught the chef on a bad day given that there’s lots of positive reviews… and it seems like they have a particular interest in serving good quality seafood and produce.
I ordered the king prawn w crusty bread starter along with some Nachos. Having seen photos of whole prawns with shells on in review photos… that’s what I was expecting. I didn’t think that the prawns would vary between dishes but perhaps that’s the case.
The nachos were fine.
Both dishes were fine in that I ate them… just not what I expected.
My partner ordered the ribeye steak sandwich. They asked how she would like her steak cooked (medium) which was appreciated… but the meat was pretty tough.
Again… we ate it… nothing was awful… just a little...
