Lovely cosy and classy pub with real log fires and an outdoor dining area. The food is extremely consistent in quality and value for money, menu is pretty extensive for a pub too. Starters are all lovely, there is also a fixed menu at certain times for a bargain price.Try to avoid busy times, either after work or between 8 to 9pm as service can be slower and less efficient then. The standard menu caters for all tastes including meat lovers, curries, fish, roasts, texmex, traditional favourites and veggie/vegan. I've been a regular here for 20 years and it's one of the most consistent and comforting places in the area. They are careful about allergies and you can swap aspects of a meal for other choices. Dessert menu is lacking choice and portions are small so I'd say spend your money on coffees including liqueur floater coffee with cream which is my favourite or nachos, calamari, wings etc if you want extras. Although it may feel a little clicky for new people as you can't stand at the bar to socialise, the staff are friendly and the locals are easy to get to know once you've been a few times. The decor is currently in warm tones with neutrals, carpeted with comfortable padded chairs, an eclectic interior design scheme and lots of objects d'art like vases, books and pictures to maintain interest. The pub is dog friendly and offers free treats and water bowls, and for a non doggie person like me, I don't find any of the dogs intrusive or bothersome. Wednesday night quiz can be loud and annoying if you just want to chat but it's over fairly quickly. They sometimes have live singers and other entertainment which can be either buzzing or a little hit and miss. The pub tries hard to reinvent itself and has survived many tough times over the years, I felt feel at home there. It's like a relative's living room, but with a few...

I am writing to share some feedback regarding a troubling experience my group and I had during our visit to your establishment on the evening of September 13th, 2024, around 9 PM.

After a mistake was made with our order, we politely asked to speak with the manager to resolve the issue. The staff member who was handling our order informed us that she was the manager. However, instead of addressing our concerns in a constructive and courteous manner, she seemed more intent on proving that we were at fault. This approach made us feel uncomfortable and unappreciated as customers.

Before she returned with the corrected order, we observed her going into the kitchen, which raised concerns about what might be happening with our food. This, coupled with her continued rude demeanor and ironic smiles when she finally brought the food to our table, left us feeling uneasy. As a result, we decided not to touch our food.

This experience was quite unsettling, especially given your establishment's generally positive reputation. I wanted to bring this to your attention because I believe it is important for management to be aware of how such situations are handled by staff, particularly those in leadership roles. We hope this was an isolated incident, and that you will take steps to ensure that all customers receive respectful and professional service in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my feedback. I would appreciate any follow-up on this matter and hope for a better experience on...

We come to the Ridgeway often as we are local. I guess we come for that reason as the staff, waiting times at bar and tables and the food quality are nothing near what you would expect in today’s standards. There is lack of waiting staff at the bar, they always look busy but they aren’t. The food is cheap in all senses. They advertise the pub as a grill pub and you really feel the grill bit when a steak or a grilled chicken breast comes to the table. Most of the times you find burnt stripes on the meat giving the dish a bitter taste. They even grill and burn the burger buns when you order a burger. They could do with cleaning the grill more often but I guess you get what you pay for. It is cheap to be honest. The Monday and Thursday offers in beer and food are like being in Spain price wise. A pint of London Pride for less than £3 is difficult to find nowadays so if you don’t mind any of the previous it’s not that bad. If they can get the staff trained and a few more waiters at the bar, better chef or more kitchen staff and more food variety in the menu then it would be a 4.5 star critic. For now let’s leave it at 2.5 over 5 Ah, don’t forget to type your registration on the provided tablets otherwise you will get a nasty £100 penalty if you park outside, the pub would not be able to cancel it no matter how...

I stopped going to the ridgeway a while ago because it was just so grotty. Holes in the ceiling, thread bear carpets, cobwebs on the light shades etc. we have recently started going back for convenience and it seems slightly better. However, my observations as follows, still grotty carpet and light fittings but it seems a bit brighter. Can someone please come round and regularly wipe the tables down, the ladies toilets need attention, the hand dryers don’t work and there is no paper towel. The sanitary bins are quite frankly unsanitary, they stink. Going back down to the bar, can Ember Inns please get some bottled tonic water in, the gut rot on tap is vile. Is there a dress code for staff because I’m not a snob but some of them look as scruffy as god knows what. This pub just needs a few tweaks and it would be a nice environment. Ember Inns just needs to spend a bit of money on it. Does anyone from H.O ever come down and take a look? I think they would be a little embarrassed. The Gryphon is a fine example of what The Ridgeway should look like. Can’t comment on the food as I haven’t eaten in there in quite some time although the NYE menu looked nice

Thought I'd try this pub with the family as its not far from us. Ordered on the app, was impressed with the menu choices... The nachos starter came out with tortilla chips which looked like the left overs of a crisp bag, no spring onion or 'southern gravy' stated on the menu. The kids mains came out with cold beans, I don't believe they ever were heated up they were that cold. The chicken dippers were very over cooked to the point they were crunchy. The crispy chicken ciabatta would of been lovely if the bread wasn't rock solid/stale The waitress kept apologising, she brought us new beans for the kids and they were happy enough. Wouldn't go back, it's a shame as the menu is appealing.
