What a disappointing visit to the Two Doves. We stopped in there for a cheeky drink and take advantage of the American Express Shop Small promotion. Generally the server was abrupt and demonstrated no real understanding of customer service. We walked in the door and stood by the nearest vacant table and was effectively shouted at - only one person at the bar the rest of you must sit down. We should really have taken this as our cue to move onto another establishment. So on with the order - 'Two Gin and Tonics and a Pint of Peroni please ' ' What Gin' 'What gins do you have ? 'They are all over their' pointing to the bar. Whilst my Peroni is being poured I take the two G&Ts to the girls and they retire to the beer garden. Payment time - my Amex card would not work hmm - I go to the garden to get another payment card and pass my wife going back to the bar - her glass has lipstick on the rim... My daughter returns to the bar with her Amex card which is also declined. Eventually the server says that 'ohh we stopped taking American Express monthes ago'. At this point we paid with a non Amex card and tried to explain that they are advertised on the Amex web site as a participant in their 'Shop Small' promotion. This in itself was challenging as the server clearly was not listening and kept interrupting before the point could be fully explained . Clearly the basic tenet of a conversation whereby person A speaks whilst person B listens and then when person A has finished person B replies and so forth is not understood by the staff here. The mains area of the garden is quite nice , but since all pubs have recently been shut for a few months it would not have been hard to provide easy improvements. There is what could be a lovely gazebo in the corner which would have been nice to sit under but appears to be used as a storage are for some chairs. The bigest surpise in the garden was the area adjacent to the gasebo that was more akin to the municipal dump than a pub beer garden !! If they feel that this rubbish must be kept then it would not be hard to erect a partition - but in reality it all looks like rubbish that should probably have been discarded - like I mentioned earlier other establishments have taken advantage of the lockdown period to perform many of thes maintenance tasks. So in summary the staff came across as a bit rude or arrogant, focussing rigidly on the governemnets Covid-19 guidelines with probably not too much understanding on why at the cost of basic hygene / cleanliness. A glass with a previous users lipstick on at best was very poor form - under the current Covid-19 regime of cleanliness, distancing etc. is...

Great looking pub- shocking service..... don't take amex although signed up to the shop small promotion. When I tired to explain staff she would not listen and talked over me. Prior to that, I had been sharply told by barmaid that my party should be sitting down at the table (they were standing by table as trying to see what ales they offered at 2 meters distance respecting rules) when I asked what Gin they do I was helpfully pointed to the selection..... then served my drink in a nice dirty glass with some lipstick on! The staff seem obsessed with following government COVID -19 guidelines although neglecting basic cleaning and hygiene. As well as keen to keep the regulars happy. Very frustrating attempting to explain this to the barmaid when she wouldn't listen let alone hear the...

My reason for my one star was because I went in there with some friends - 6 people in all. Everything we wanted to order on the menu - bearing in mind it was just sandwiches - they didn’t have as we were told it was the chefs day off. There’s was no atmosphere and there wasn’t any other customers. So after one drink we decided to go to the Black Horse pub in Locksbottom. I’m not sure if the pub has changed hands, but we won’t be going back anytime soon. It’s a shame as it used to be a very nice place to have a...

Haven't been here for ages but I stopped off on way home from Dobbies garden centre. It's a lovely old fashioned place with royal memorabilia and poor stuffed animals : ( . .Nice smiley young barman All good so far! But my cheese salad sandwich turned out to be just cheese and lettuce!! See photo. And some of the bread was not even buttered, no coleslaw either. Phil in a previous review did so much better with his roast beef Sandwich, lucky Phil. : ) I won't rush back for the 'food' but maybe a cold beer..

This could be a really nice pub. Only Proper Job & Landlord - the Landlord was fine. Unfortunately the pub seemed a little sad. I detected more recent management changes. The clientele was seriously ancient, but that’s ok. What was not ok and was quite shocking is for there to be GBNews permanently on the TV. I will not be returning to a pub that pumps out this vile and hateful rubbish. The clientele seemed to like it though.
