🚇 Selhurst 🍺 £6.00 Madri
A Lovely South London Local Popular With Palace Fans.
The White Horse is located in Selhurst close to Selhurst Park the home of Crystal Palace Football Club. The nearest station is Selhurst, it’s a five minute walk to get here.
This pub was built in the 1930’s and has had a few monikers over the years. It has been called The Holmesdale, The Kilkenny Tavern and reverted back to The White Horse in 2022.
This is a good size one bar pub that is set out in a ‘L’ shape. Most of the original decor is long gone with the exception of the Tudor beams and counter that frame the centrally located servery. The decor here is simple and functional with pale panelled walls, traditional furniture and a wooden floor running throughout. Just opposite the servery is a raised section which has a fish tank, other key features include a wood burner, two dartboards, a pool table and a Jukebox. At the rear of the pub is a large beer garden complete with covered patio area.
The beer selection was solid and included two cask ales. I decided on a Madri, my pint was great, price point was average. This is a wet-led pub that doesn’t serve food.
I arrived bang on 12pm on a mild Saturday lunchtime in January. I was first one in the door and received a warm welcome by a lovely member of staff. Not long after a couple of regulars came in who were friendly and chatty. This pub loves its sport and was showing the Horse Racing and Golf on mute on two of the four large screens. The soundtrack was soulful tunes which set a nice backdrop.
The pub has lots on to engage the local community. There are Live Music and Karaoke nights, a Darts Team, Pool competitions plus live Premier League.
Visiting The White Horse was an excellent experience, this is a proper locals pub that serves the community well. Due to its proximity to Selhurst Park, the pub gets very busy on match days when Palace are playing at home. If you’re ever in this part of town, I would definitely recommend a visit.

Read moreLovely pub. The thing that really struck me was the loos. They sparkle. The landlord/lady clearly cares about this place. It feels nice to be in.
So, it's clearly a sports pub - very close to Selhurst Park - but it's not a typical sports pub. Sure, you can buy Fosters, Carling, Guinness or Strongbow if you want (or Coors if you hate beer and life itself) but also Inchs cider, Camden (Helles and Pale), Madri, Moretti, Staropramen and two real ales. Today it's Doom Bar and Harvey's Sussex Best. The Best is an excellent beer, in excellent condition.
Pool table, darts, wood burner, big beer garden out back. Even a (digital) Jukebox.
If you want to watch football it's great. If you want a pint it's very good. If about 20 of you want to hang out in the beer garden it's perfect. "Families welcome" it says, and they clearly mean it.
A proper pub, but shows that "proper" doesn't have to mean...

Clean, Great music box, great pool table with space to play and separated darts area. Beer garden with free parking is huge. All sports showen on large TV's and the fresh rolls on football days are home made and tastey. The land ladie is incredibly welcoming to all, the staff are all friendly and proactive (never have to wait to long to get served when really busy) there has been a new real log burning fire installed which has added a cosy family feel to the the pub. The clientel is pleasantly mixed and I thoroughly...
