Learning about a new Malayali restaurant in Croydon, I rushed to book this restaurant in advance. Filled with excitement, I even skipped my lunch to fully devour the chatti beef Porotta. On arrival, there were 3 tables that were filled with people. We waited 20 mins for the menu where the staff barely tried to acknowledge us. Eventually when they served us, they had no prior knowledge about portion sizes or what the meal was. They also informed us that there were no beef or mutton dishes. I felt really disappointed because I was looking forward for the chatti beef Porotta. I completely understood and settled with the chicken option. The disappointment only worsened from here, we kept waiting. One hour passed and the starter still didn’t arrive. We only ordered kappa cutlet and a payoli chicken fry. When it did arrive, the portion size was very small. The waiting continued. Customer service was extremely bad, they did not inform us about the waiting time and any possible alternative dishes. As I looked around the atmosphere of the restaurant, I realised that many people were experiencing the same thing. Extremely starving people. There were people before us, only being served after an hour after we have arrived. There were also people who arrived after us, who were waiting hours to simply eat some cultural food. We waited patiently for 2 hours and then it comes to a point where you have to leave and find other food sources. These are some key points this restaurant can improve. We do need the Malayali cultural representation in Croydon. This restaurant has potential if the management and customer service improves by a 100 miles and actually serve...

We are from Kerala, but we are vegetarians. We always look for kerala restaurants in the UK, just to have authentic kerala porotta. But we are always let down by the menus at most of the kerala restaurants here in the UK as they will have very limited or no good vegetarian options. Even if there are 1 or 2 vegetarian options, they sometimes turn us down saying it's not available on the day. BUT, magic masala is the only place we have found so far in the UK that serves authentic Kerala food, plus other varieties of Indian food with excellent vegetarian options too, and they all taste YUMM! We live in Essex and we drive for an hour to get to Magic masala in Croydon whenever we crave for authentic kerala porotta.
