I have been a customer for years and today i could not believe the service i recieved from the manager named james and another staff member. I paid at the till for 20.49 bill, i passed on £25 and waiter said do you have a kids voucher i said let me check and internet did not work so i said its ok just put it through, he said dont worry i done it for you and he put the money in the till and did not close the till fully and passed the reciept and i said where is my change he said you gave me £15. I gave him £25 i did not even know he charged me 14.99. This turned into a big argument for the next 45minutes, manager said his going to go count the money went came back and said it was only £1 extra, i asked for cameras to be checked and he said they cant be checked on the premises. I believe these two team members do this very often in this resturant as the manager kept on saying it happens all the time we will check at the end of day in our tills and call you if you have paid extra. He told me that i was lying when it is my word against his and he was so disgusting and rude that he refunded me half of the money in full change. I had my friend and kids witness all of this and instead of saying sorry yes a mistake might of happened he decided to lose a customer. This place is run down, not very hygenic but i visit this place at least once a week as it is local and has nice grounds for kids to play. Todays service was disgrace, cant believe that a manager will act in such a way and that all other staff did not have the guts to confront him except from one head chef which regonises me and did walk up to him and said she wouldnt lie why you doing this. To all the waitresses who were just looking and not speaking up shame on you, and to the waiter who caused all of this and then did not have the guts to face me shame on you. You are a thief and have no dignity. Will never return to this resturant and will take this further to get...

We’ve been patrons of Whitewebbs for many many years, so when we were recently in the area we decided to visit for breakfast, it was very early and we were one of the first visitors that morning, so expectations of a fresh breakfast were high. We were given our cups which were filthy, and it took 5 cups to rectify this, one of which even had egg in it! It took a while as the bartender had left the bar, and although another member of staff could clearly see me waiting, she continued looking at her laptop as though I wasn’t there! I eventually got a fairly clean cup and went to fill it, there were two identical jugs at the drink station, neither of which were labelled so I picked one up assuming it was milk, only to pour filtered coffee in to my drink, before realising that the milk was in the other identical jug, there were also no teaspoons and no containers for litter.

We then went to fill our plates, only to find a limited offering of baked up food, instead of fresh tomatoes or tinned plumb tomatoes there was tinned chopped tomatoes, not ideal, three rock hard fried eggs, really unappealing, and no scrambled egg option, the mushrooms had been cooked in lots of pepper, which is fine if you like pepper but if not they would be inedible.

In general the whole place was filthy, the bar was covered in sticky drink that looked as though it had been there for some time, bearing in mind that we visited first thing in the morning, the entire restaurant needs a really good deep clean, as everything was very grimy!

When we left we were thanked for our visit, which was quite apt, as you really need thanking to visit this restaurant in its current state, which in all honesty is really sad to see as it was always such a beautiful place and we’ve loved it in the past, I can honestly say that unless there are major changes, yesterday will sadly be our last!

I suggest a staff field trip to the Harlow branch to see how it...

Carvery had a long queue but the food was decent. We ordered kids carvery for our 3 kids and we ordered the adult carvery for ourselves.

The menu clearly shows that two children’s courses in a Saturday cost £7.99. When it came to ordering dessert for them, we were told by Kelly, our waitress, that they were out of ice cream and brownie, so there were no desserts for kids! We asked if they would be able to make a smaller portion of the adult desserts as a substitution. Kelly said yes as long as it wasn’t the crumble which came in a pre-determined portion. One child opted for the make your own Sunday (but with no ice cream). The other two asked for a fudge cake and apple pie slice.

We queried the other bill when it came as they charged us for a full adult dessert for two of the kids (this was in addition to the dessert that they weren’t given included in the 2 course price).

Kelly told us that the £7.99 Saturday kids carvery does not include two courses, and when we showed her it written on the menu (see photo), she told us it was wrong and everyone has to have to pay an extra £2 per child for dessert. They did not have starters. Has she been ripping off all customers with children?

She became very aggressive and called a colleague over who agreed it was included. She then said she gave full size portions so we had to pay. We responded that we never asked for full size portions! She argued that despite asking for small kid size portions, they ate it so we have to pay.

What a ridiculous argument… she yelled at us “I don’t need this today”. She had been moaning about a late work night the previous day.

She is very unprofessional and needs retraining. She does not give your company a good reputation.

As a side note, there is complete disinterest from staff to people standing to wait for a table. We were ignored for ages and noticed the same happening to other...

We visited on a sunny Saturday, whilst waiting for our booked table one of the manager and employee were having an ice cube fight right in the main area. The ice cubes were on the floor and watery all over the place. That is a high health and saftey risk for both customers and workers. No wet signs were put afterwards aswell. It was very disturbing as I had a disabled individual with me who could’ve slipped and fell as they don’t have full sense to danger ect. We then went to order drinks whilst waiting and the bar surface was all sticky and had strong beer smell all over the counter area, and as I didnt see it at first my arm touched it and it was all filthy and it was just so unpleasent. After having to digest the driest meat ever we wanted to go out to cut the birthday cake, we was given 5 DIRTY plates. I honestly felt so insulted and disrespected it was unreal. I took them back and the staff member said “These were the cleanest ones”. When I bought it to the managers attention the response was “ it’s been a busy day maybe the staff member didn’t notice” excuse me??? If it was 1/2 plates i’d understand but 5 dirty plates and they dont notice?? I wrote an complaint email and the responser was so full with attitude and told me how I was being unfair and had the audaticty to block my email as I couldn’t send a reply back. All I wanted was respect and a heartfelt apology. That store needs to be checked for hygiene for food, cutlery, plates and the environment in general. Their workers also should be trained properly, felt like I walked into a children’s playground. It was the worst place to celebrate a birthday.

Was my first Toby Carvery experience and I am definitely going back again!!!!! The place was beautiful with a big seating area, you are welcomed by a staff who also accompanies you to your table if you have a reservation, if not I am guessing they give you a table according to the availability. All tables and floors looked clean and tidy. Food counter was also clean and not messy at all, there was a nice selection of sides. I got the regular size plate with Turkey meat, Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes, mac and cheese, cauliflower and some peas. I thought I was being greedy at first but left no crumbs on the plate. The meat tasted amazing with gravy and everything on the plate was so fresh and delicious. However my friends got roast beef and they said it’s not as good as usual, a bit dry and I did agree with them after trying a little piece. Best thing about Toby Carvery is you can more sides if you don’t feel full after the first plate, which is almost impossible. I can’t say much about the staff since I’ve only seen one waitress who was kinda taking care of the whole place(?) Prices were affordable, it was around £48 for 4 people and 3 of the plates were king size. You would normally pay that money for 2 people if you want to eat outside in London. Atmosphere was great, mostly families and nice vibes. Would definitely go back again and recommend people to go if you are on a budget and want to treat yourself with a nice dinner out!!
