Detailed review below - be warned!!
As a 'proper pub' lover (and a Northerner), I think the Town Wharf really is excellent. Superb welcome always by Mike, Arlene and their well drilled staff (they are clearly learning from some of the best, from the old school but able to move with the times). Has to be one of the best spots on the river in London - the deck outside literally sits over the Thames, and right by the Thames path so no traffic. Loads of room upstairs with river views and cosy snugs, where large events/group bookings can be held. Families, dogs, all comers welcomed and looked after equally. Mike also looks after his 'patch', making sure there's no trouble from customers leaving, (or possible trouble makers loitering).
I've eaten here many times in a group, as well as just been in for a single pint on my own, and not had a bad (or even average) experience. Don't expect 'gourmet'/gastro pub style food, just good modern and classic dishes done extremely well, at very good value prices, especially for London (yeah yeah, we're not on Oxford Street, but I'm a Northerner so Isleworth is London....). Beers are single Brewer (Sam Smith), so if you have 'a favourite' from someone else, it's not here. However, I think Sam has actually nailed the 'range' - a tasty, 3.4% lager (Alpine), a premium (Pure Brew at 5, and Taddy in between), and Old Bitter as your classic, easy drinking session bitter (if we all come down and give them some business, maybe they'll finally let Mike have it on Cask...!), then loads more of interest in bottles too.
ONE MINOR PROBLEM; the wines, especially the White, may not be the greatest - Sam's is a Brewery after all - and I don't know the spirits, so just be prepared to sample and find something, or just broaden your horizons!
In summary, come and enjoy what I think is a hallmark example of how pubs should be run; welcoming, efficient landlord, brilliantly run kitchen serving a well kept, tasty range of beers....

Read moreWe moved to Old Isleworth 30 years ago when the go-to pub was the London Apprentice. The Town Wharf opened a few years later and at first struggled against it's famous neighbour even though it was beautifully situated and far more comfortable to sit and enjoy the river and atmosphere. We still live in the area but haven't been back much until a week or so ago when on a lovely sunny day we sat outside for a stunning lunch. £21.95 for 3 (small) sharing plates and an added delicious Non-Alcohol stout, we were driving! The new owner Michael was so friendly and helpful and his wife who prepares the food really made it a special treat for us. They lived many year in SA and the whole experience reminded us of sunshine lunches in Capetown. We went back with a friend for Sunday lunch but this time sat inside in the comfortable cosy interior as it was a cool day. This time we had 3 courses including perfectly cooked roast beef and home made Yorkshire pudding, red/white wine amazing desserts and coffee. Obviously more expensive but very reasonable compared area offerings. 3 hours of bliss to while away a Sunday afternoon. Go and book early as favourite roasts can run out. We enjoy quality food and drink...
