Came in for a quick pitstop drink after a family event at a venue next door; given how popular this annual event usually is and how widely publicized it is, you'd have assumed there'd be enough staff (if not more) to support the busy day. But no - we only saw 2 people on the bar and 1 perhaps-management staff member (plus the 2 bar staff) delivering meals. On entry we were abruptly told that as we hadn't booked the only place to sit would be the sports bar side; fine with us as we didn't intend to eat anyway and fancied watching the football. My family found a small spare table and I stood at the bar to order our drinks (sports bar side, as directed) and was promptly ignored by the 2 bar staff for the next 10 minutes who only served people on the other side. When I moved to the other side and told a bar staff member I felt I'd been ignored, I got a rather defensive response. The other barperson chose to serve me and somewhat reluctantly I bought my round of drinks. We were glad to not be eating because all around us were people waiting for food; one table even left their food behind after giving up waiting for it. A small child on the table behind us was left waiting for almost 30mins for their ice-cream; when it arrived it was the most depressing ice-cream dessert I've ever seen - 2 round scoops of ice-cream in a small bowl with nothing else. Obviously it might be whats offered in the kids meal deal but to wait that length of time for it was ridiculous. Also none of the ladies toilet cubicles had any toilet paper whatsover at 4pm; the cleaning check sheet said loos were checked hourly but there's no way that amount of loo roll could have been used within the last hour. Clearly this pub was today incredibly understaffed for the volume of people but it has made us question...
Read moreMy friends and I went to this pub for lunch after a morning at the farm. We loved the look of the pub and the outside area was great for the children we had with us. We were given a warm welcome, but unfortunately, after this, the experience took a sharp turn for the worse. The staff were incredibly abrupt with us, giving us monosyllabic and monotone responses. This was hugely different to every single other table of guests, of which there were many. The staff refused to serve us basic beverages, lying that they didn't have certain drinks when we could see that they did, in fact, have them. We ordered food in two separate groups and, although we cannot fault the food which was tasty, my group, which was the second to order (one after the other) didn't get our food until well after the first groups desserts had been eaten. When asking the staff about where our food was and if everything had been delivered to us when it finally arrived, the staff were incredibly rude saying things like "you should have ordered together" and "i've only got two hands". On leaving the pub, we reflected on why it was that we had such a terrible experience compared to all the other guests whom we could see and hear were receiving great customer service. Unfortunately, the one difference was that someone in our group has brown skin. I believe that We Anchor In Hope is a racist establishment. I am writing this review in the hope that there is an immediate reflection within your staff, training provided on racism awareness and how to be anti-racist, and immediate change in behaviour to customers. This was a disgusting and...

Sadly have lost any faith in Green King, they are either incompetent or mendacious!
On the 2nd of May ordered a meal for two via the Application. The staff were apologetic but explained the kitchen was closed due to a lack of staff and issued me a refund receipt and said it would take a couple of days to process.
Subsequently have been back 9 times chasing the refund and still nothing. Takes seconds to take the funds shouldn't take two months to refund incorrectly taken monies!
The local staff have tried to help, have sent copies of the receipt to head office etc. but nothing!
BEWARE **
Visited for the first time today, although driven past loads.
Venue was suggested by a friend and I was concerned that given the weather it would be packed but was pleasantly surprised, plenty of customers but also room to spread out.
Reasonably kept cellar (alas I could only have a pint, as driving). We had four meals and each of us enjoyed our choice. Staff were mostly helpful and friendly.
Having tried it, I would happily return, reasonably priced, fair quality pub with good food selection.
Update: Couple of opportunities to get the extra star. Ordered original and diet drinks (one of the party being diabetic), but they weren't identified when brought to the table, and a subsequent drinks order was incorrect. Garden wasn't very clean (appreciate that this always going to be a battle with napkins and condiment packets, but when tables were cleared there was scant attention to this debris). Hope the feedback helps improve my score on a...
