Absolutely horrendous experience. First thing we get when we walk through the door is ignored, we were a group of 9, hard to miss. When someone finally decided to come over to us we got told we weren’t allowed to sit together so we could have the table of 8 then one sat on a different table. Or we can have two booths which were back to back of each other. We suggested we’d take the table of 8 and we could pop the chair on the end for the odd one out and we got the inconsiderate response of ‘no you’re not allowed to do that it’s against policy’ We again tried to explain we wanted to sit together as a family but this horrendous duty manager kept telling us no it’s not the policy the chef can only take tables of 8. Then this horrible woman started to walk away and ignore us half way through a sentence of us asking why this was the policy and it would still be on two separate orders.

Already upset we just took the two booths, at least we were here and we could enjoy a nice meal…..

Most of the starters were gone and the ones that were left were absolutely rubbish when they came out. I asked for the bread and oils starter, ‘nah we have run out of that’ was the response. How on earth you can run out of bread and oil is beyond me, I settled for the soup…which came with bread…go figure.

Then the problems started with the main meals, everyone else’s came out at a reasonable portion, I had the sea bass and scallops. This contact lense sized dish came out with the smallest fillets of fish, already upset at the whole night I asked the waitress where my dinner was that I’d paid £19 for?? She said, ‘well that’s how it comes’ She then went and got this god awful woman of a manager again who once again coldly told me that’s how it is. It was at this point I broke down and just cried. This absolute disgrace of a woman who is supposed to be the manager is making her customers CRY. We had already explained it was a tough time for us due to personal circumstances but this didn’t phase this woman at all, she just continues to get her point across with absolutely no compassion at all!! This woman SHOULD NOT be a hospitality manager, she would suit the role of a prison guard with the behaviour she expressed. Even when I had a quiet word with her she just kept telling me ‘she should have to explain herself, this is the policy, you lot have already been told this, I shouldn’t have to tell you again’ No apology for not being able to sit together, no apology for walking way from us when we were trying to get to the bottom of what the damn policy was for.

This absolute disgrace of a woman and has sullied the whole gathering, this was supposed to be out Christmas Day celebrated after Christmas and reading the rest of these reviews I have absolutely no idea how this woman still has the job. I’d be appalled and ashamed if she was my deputy manager. I hope she gets the idea soon and sorts her self out and stops ruining...

My wife and myself have passed the Chilton Hundreds, hundreds of times, so for a change we thought we would give this pub a visit and sadly we were disappointed.!!

The pub from the outside looks very inviting and when venturing in, is how it appears from the outside. Warm, inviting and comfortable. The young lady (Sharron) who attended our table was very pleasant and accommodating, offering advise on both the food and wine menu's, so those of you viewing this review can see why I gave a 5 star rating for service. So Sharron,,, whilst our visit to the CH wasn't how we would have liked it to be, you did your best and for that Pauline and myself, Thank you.!!

The reason for the "Food 2 Star" rating.!! I ordered the Beef Rib Sunday Lunch meal which was awful.! On the menu it says the beef is cooked for 7 hours and I can quite believe that, because whilst the meat was well cooked but lacking in taste, the bone protruding from the middle of it looked disgusting. The "roast potatoes" looked anemic as though they had only seen the oven for a few minuets being sodden in cooking oil or cooking fat as was the Yorkshire pudding. Both tasted of oil or fat.! The vegetables had been diced(as that which you might give a child) and were soggy apart from the parsnip which were whole but when I bit into it, it wasn't aldenta', it wasn't cooked.! Sadly I gave up on the meal after about 5 minuets. The is no excuse for poorly cooked food.!!

No I didn't bring this to the attention of the waitress until my wife finally gave up on her Pork Sunday Lunch meal due to it being similar in cooking terms as my own. My wife did say the tastiest item on her plate was the pork crackling. So all in all not a nice meal. When I spoke to our waitress Sharron she was very apologetic and I think quite embarrassed about the situation but she did recompence us for both main meals.

My wife and myself do like to look on the bright side of life and the day was not entirely lost because the wine (a New Zealand sauvignon) along with my wife's desert the Apple tart with vanilla ice cream took the sting out of the poor meal.

SORRY CHILTON HUNDREDS BUT THE MEAL WAS AWFUL.!!

We came here last night for a family get together, family came down to us that we don’t see often due to distance. The seating they provided for 11 of us was 3 separate booths all back to back. So we was all completely separated and not even able to look at each other. It was explained on the booking it would be over 3 tables but didn’t explain that we would all be back to back in booths. That put a big downer on our evening instantly. Where we was then on separate booths, they treated us as if we wasn’t eating together and bought all our meals out at completely different times. Whilst one table had eaten their mains and being offered their desserts, our table had literally just received our mains, which ruined our opportunity to actually mingle and speak with one another. When we chased up our mains with the waitress, 2 managers came over. The man seemed very apologetic and offered to sort something on our bill at the end. The woman manager gave nothing but attitude to us when we explained that waiting over half hour from our starters was not acceptable whilst the rest of our family had finished their mains. And we was still waiting on ours. She told us they had a full restaurant that night… so basically they cannot cope and run things smoothly when they are fully booked. At the end of the meal when it came to paying, my partner spoke with the manager, who seemed decent to begin with, then got my partners back up by saying “we are not McDonald’s, we don’t provide fast food” which I take that he was insinuating that we only eat in fast food restaurants. The food wasn’t that great at all, very much standard. Nothing to rave about at all. The chips tasted stale and not fresh at all. Barely ate mine. Overall experience was extremely disappointing and will not be...

My partner and my child came out 16th of Feb for a belated valentines meal. We were greeted at the door, and didn't have long to wait to be seated. Our host/server was pleasant, and he was great with my little boy. This is where the positives end. The food was, for the price, atrocious! If it wasn't so expensive I would have accepted it for cheap and cheerful pub grub, albeit executed badly. The back of house staff dropped the ball tonight. The roast potatoes - no seasoning or flavour to speak of, absolutely zero colouring on them. They were soggy and just awful. NOT what a roast potato should be! The meat - the beef as stated on the menu should have been 'pink' this beef was well done, and a bad cut at that. Chewy, sinewy. Not pleasant at all. The pork was fine I guess. The turkey was disappointing. All three cuts were cut very thin. Incredibly disappointed considering the price of the dish. Cauliflower cheese - clearly reheated, a congealed flavourless mess. As this is a menu upgrade this should have been executed much better. The starter - was actually ok, nothing to commend, apart from this at least had flavour. On the whole a massively disheartening experience, only marginally made bearable thanks to some friendly service. Front of House team for the win, back of house staff need to brush up on service standards and basic culinary skills. A well cooked roast is a thing of beauty. This fell so short of the mark. The cost for what it is is abysmal. Off the back of this one experience we have zero intentions of coming back.

Maybe I should have checked customer reviews before our visit.... Having exchanged some Tesco vouchers for Chef and Brewer...and factoring COVID / Lockdown/ Medical issues....I realised my vouchers were due to expire in the next 5 days . So , as it was my birthday , Hubby and I decided to make the 40 mile trip to Maidstone... Booking was ok ...but woe betide us if we were 15 mins late ( umm... traveling through Op Brock could be an issue )... So ,we arrived. Table .ok .. nothing special...jutting out into the flow of people near the bar / customers walking past We studied the menu...again ..so so ok ..decided to stick with what we know and like. Hubby had gammon, pineapple and chips ..he left some as it was fatty . I chose the "Drenched chicken in ( hunters ) sauce.. " Well , I'm sorry...but definitely not drenched .. tiny amount of sauce... Chicken so tough I couldn't cut part of it ( steak would have been easier to cut (... overall....a let down I chose a mocha cheesecake...yes ,very tasty...helped make up for poor main meal. A donation is made to Macmillan Cancer for each dish sold ( cheesecake ).. Our waitress was lovely , helpful and chatty . I didn't want to complain about my meal ( I would be too embarrassed )...but definitely won't revisit .
