I don't know what has happened to The Fox. Our recent visit was the worst service I have ever experienced.
Staff wondering around looking like they're lost and definitely not the friendly faces we're used to seeing. We waited a while to be seated for our 3pm reservation with a queue forming out of the door. We had our drinks order taken when the drinks came a drink was missing, we then waited upwards of 10 minutes to receive the pint of coke which was missed. Something we'd typically just let go but with today's service and overall experience, was hard to do. Also when initially placing the order, we asked for a drink that they had listed on the app to be told they didn't have it and for the waitress laugh it off 'oh yeah, a lot of the stuff we have listed on the app we don't actually have'... Good job we didn't order through the app although it may have given us better service... When asking for other options, she advised that they had 'beer and ale' not providing the draft options but needing to go check then coming back over to say they had an IPA and two other ales.
Our food order was taken after we received the missing drink, short wait which was unexpected as it was fairly busy, we had a chicken burger and beef burger come out with one of the waitresses who just presented them both as 'burger' staring at us blankly and not saying anything else. Meals were put infront of us without the staff even speaking or asking who's was who's. Then one of the meals were missing.. Seems to be what ever we ordered last was missed off and never ordered. The manager came over to ask again what the missing meal was, it was shrugged off and we were told it was missed off the order. Upon complaining as we all came to eat together so we didn't really want to start our meals without the last one considering that we already had a drink missed and the service wasn't exactly helping for a good experience, the manager got frustrated and was very short with us, went back into the kitchen to reappear again a couple of minutes later asking to confirm the order for the 3rd time.
When all the food did arrive, mine was 'warm' with sloppy presentation. The beef burger had part of the top bun missing. We were never asked if we wanted any extras like sauces etc. After the small complaint we were pretty much just ignored for approximately 25 minutes or so. When asked if everything was okay we asked to speak with the manager again as we're were unhappy with the food and service as a whole. No apology, we asked for several meals to be taken off of the bill which was agreed to avoid causing a scene.
We finished our drinks and waited for the bill, the bill didn't arrive so we waited by the POS system to be walked passed by staff around 8/9 times for the manager to eventually come over to settle the bill.
I have had nothing but amazing experiences at the fox, we go very often and was extremely confused by the recent reviews but they are correct. The staff are unapproachable, rude and do not treat you like paying customers. Turned up for our reservation 3PM, stood at the door for nearly 10 minutes until someone came to show us to our table in which time a couple of waitresses walked past saying someone will be with us shortly, not a great start but I can let it go.
We are then seated, someone finally comes to take our drink order, I had checked their app before visiting to see their menus bearing in mind this is the app you can use to order your food and drinks direct to the table, on arrival was told jokingly 'haha yeah a lot of the stuff that's on the app we don't actually have' hardly funny that is it? So if you order through the app they'd just come over and tell you they don't have it? Pretty poor.
Then after that still manages misses one of the drinks.. Once again not the end of the world, although you'd expect them to rectify this rather quickly, another 10 minutes later the drink turns up that was missing and asked to take our order.
We place our order, 25 minutes later the food comes out, the staff are about as charismatic and pleasant as a wet bath sponge, the one girl walks over bearing in mind our table of 6 ordered 3 different burgers, just stands there looking at us with two plates of food and says 'burger?' I mean come on? One was a chicken burger and one was a beef burger, hardly a difficult thing to mention regardless of your training, you could tell she didn't want to be there and the fact she had to serve us was an inconvenience to her day, not to mention we was not the only table to complain about her.
Then oh what a surprise.. They forgot one of the meals which they was happy to say straight away, 'oh sorry we forgot the fish and chips we'll do that now for you' the staff are useless, unapologetic, unsympathetic and shouldn't be working in customer service. Bearing in mind they came back twice after replacing the order to ask if it was mushy peas or garden peas, so it took them 4 attempts to bring out a battered fish, chips and some mushy peas, beyond a joke.
The manager then comes over as by this point we are ready to leave and go elsewhere, forgot her name which is a shame because she was vile, argumentative and a poor attitude, pointer could really do with some managerial training to deal with customers.
We managed to leave with them clearing the table quickly to get us out and managed to only pay for the drinks, so in the space of our visit they managed to serve me a poor pint of San Miguel because I couldn't have the beer that I wanted as their app showed stuff they didn't even have haha! So funny....
I'd avoid this place at all costs, massively gone down hill recently, used to visit fairly recently didn't recognise a single member of staff, must have lost a lot of the long serving quality staff. The 'burger?' girl who we complained about apparently used to work in the kitchen so hasn't had much training. Great excuse.
I'll never return to this poorly run, poor attitude staff establishment ever again, the waiters can't even remember what pints are on...

We had booked but because I had my dog with me we couldn't take our reserved table but were offered outside seating or in the bar area where dogs are allowed. We took a table in their garden, under a substantial canopy that had heaters that you could turn on by pressing a button. The menu was fairly simple and there were a few specials on offer. You order at the bar and the bar staff was helpful and friendly. Our order was read back to us, which I always like to make sure they have entered everything correctly. However there must have been some mistake in the kitchen because our starters were slightly wrong. We ordered three Korean BBQ Pork Rib bites from the specials menu, but what came were three crispy Korean BBQ Chicken Strips. Luckily, these were really nice so we just went with it. For mains we ordered three burgers, a sea bass & scallops dish, and a steak & ale pie with mash. The food arrived quickly and accurately. The pie was impressive and delicious! The burgers were all great, though next time I will order a side of onion rings with mine because there were only a few that came on the plate with the burger and fries. The burgers are a real mouthful and a knife and fork may be needed by more dainty diners. The sea food dish was brilliant. We were too stuffed to manage desserts. I liked the Green King IPA and there was also another real ale on tap along with a good selection of continental beers. The large car park is behind the pub. This is in a rural setting though just a 20 to 30 meters back from the fairly busy A4103. I like to take a walk by the river Teme after dinner and that is also only 30 meters away.
