We were meeting family that we had not seen for a while and had travelled from Kent, the building as beautiful and we loved the fact there was no bar but a tap room.|Whilst waiting for the others to turn up we were met with hostility, not once, but twice by the young lady who was working/running the bar. The first time she asked what we were doing (we were waiting in the garden) and the 2nd time she actually shouted across the rooms as we were walking out to meet the rest. I told her we had booked and she incredibly rudely said what name then. It was like we were not welcome. I could sense she did not like the look of us. Anyway that really put us off sitting there. The pub was near empty and there really was not reason to be so rude.||We did stay for food and a couple of drinks and the food was really lovely and the sea bass was delicious, We also ordered the lamb (which was throughly enjoyed) scampi and the leek and chicken pie and the steak and ale pie. We could not fault the food and the choice of drinks from the tap house was good although when we went there to ask for a spoon (so we could dessert share) we were met once again with hostility. There really is no need to be rude to customers. Maybe the hot wather was putting people in a bad mood :( |My rating is on the atmoshphere and sheer rudeness of the staff and has nothing to do with the pub and food which were...

Stopped in for a drink after a word of mouth recommendation. Visit was on a Friday early afternoon, half term, fairly quiet. Sat in the beer garden which was lovely. Upon finding the bar area myself and my three year old son, were told by a member of bar staff that she'd be back in a second. The bar area is unusual in that there isn't an actual bar and all of the kegs if beer/ fridges are accessible. It isn't clear where one should stand. My lad and I had a look in the fridge to see what type of fruit juice he wanted. At which point a different member of bar staff arrived and rather curtly told us not to help ourselves - which we weren't. I'm not sure if this member was having a bad day, but the whole interaction after this point was rather frosty indeed. As part of my order I wanted a packet of nuts which I was informed I should get from the snack cupboard which is down the corridor on the right (ironically one has to help themselves to this area...) the cupboard is not clearly labeled or obvious. In my effort to find the snack cupboard I had inadvertently walked past it, the instruction I had been given was then repeated back to me, in a rather Brits abroad way: just say the same thing, but louder. Needless to say we had the one drink, ate the nuts and left. Overall, decent beer - poor communication. I do hope your...

A change from the norm! No bar, you order drinks from the tap room. The staff are lovely, very friendly and efficient. The food is definitely a step above pub-grub (we had an evening meal and a lunch, both were delicious, well presented and reasonably priced). They have a great selection of local ales. Inside is separated into traditional nooks and crannies, outside there's a large garden. Clearly very popular, great atmosphere, child and dog friendly (though I'm not sure children get treats like the dogs).

Dating back to Victoria and unchanged rear find. Could not fault it, original pub with tap room (meaning no bar) and changing beers, great home cooked food friendly helpful smiling service. Beverly always smiling and nothing seems to much trouble, Mari & Garath who run the place to ensure exelt food, service, & drinks. There is a large garden some areas under cover, a car to the back and road side. Rooms clean comfortable beds separate from the pub. WILL be returning

Absolute belter of a British pub! Fantastic selection of ales (most of which I've never tried!), friendly, banterful and attentive staff, as well as the most impressive burger I've had for a long time... enjoyed in the most perfect beer garden; a well-maintained lawn and plenty of tables. What else could 4 bloke ask for?! The perfect way to fill up before a drunken stroll back to the nearby campsite! Thanks to the owners and staff for a memorable trip!
