Denbies Conservatory Restaurant — Restaurant in Mole Valley

Visited on Tuesday, we were meeting halfway between Windsor and the South Coast with friends. We didn't want a full hot meal however the alternatives were scarce and poor. 2 soups one looked unappetising and the other was empty so we went for a sandwich. The only choices were beef or sausage and egg. Hubby doesn't do egg so went for the beef. I had chips only. Beef was tough and the crusts inedible. I told the staff that the carrot soup was empty whilst first at the servery so after discarding the beef sandwich I went back expecting it to be refilled. I was wrong and when I asked again was told it would be 2 minutes. 10 minutes later I was offered the soup straight from the kitchen. A roll was offered and butter but I had to ask for this. Really disappointed in the service we received today. We weren't greeted when we approached the hot counter. The lady behind the counter couldn't answer our question when we asked, in fact not only could she not answer our question but the answer was just a shrug of the shoulders. We did not feel welcome at all. We weren't asked if we wanted to eat in or takeaway and our sausage rolls were both put in one takeaway box - I had to ask for plates. The colleagues working the coffee collection point made no attempt to greet us and slopped coffee down the side of the cup without attempting to wipe it. Overall quality of food was good and it was fresh and there was an ice cold water machine which was a nice touch. The service was poor, I definitely would not visit again...

Expecting good things as restaurant is part of renowned wine estate but we were very disappointed. Food was overpriced, even a £5.50 cheese sandwich was made with very cheap bread and processed cheese slices. The lasagne was okay but I’ve had better school dinners, it was dry, a small portion with some dried up chips ( and it was prime lunchtime on a Saturday ) I was only served one glass of wine when I ordered two and had to go and ask for the second one.
