The Haven Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in New Forest

I booked this for our 23rd anniversary meal, as we have been to most restaurants and pubs throughout the New Forest and fancied going somewhere slightly different this time. We were very fortunate it was a very hot day 5th May 2018, and it was absolutely buzzing with a really nice vibe to the place. From the minute we walked through the door to the time we left at the end of the evening the staff were absolutely superb and very attentive. I had the Indonesian fish curry and my wife had the Hake risotto and we shared a salmon platter to start. All of the food was top notch which was complemented by the lovely surroundings of the Haven bar which is upstairs overlooking the marina and further afield the Isle of Wight. Despite not being yachtie types we did still really enjoy the evening, especially people watching, coming in and going out wearing all types of dress including life jackets to dresses. We were very impressed with the food but the service was a bit hit and miss.

I booked the table over a month in advance as we were staying in the area for a few days celebrating my partners birthday. The restaurant was relatively quiet when they seated us in the middle of the dining area and I asked could we sit by the window I got a generic “that’s first come first served, reserved for someone who booked before you”. I questioned it as I’d booked a long time ago and they were then able to seat us by the window. They didn’t run out of tables by the window whilst we were there. Service was just a bit weird from then on though, maybe I was difficult.

Food was good. I requested condiments like the other tables had and the male server seemed to think it strange I’d like ketchup and mayo. To be fair I didn’t need them as the food was very tasty but I didn’t appreciate the judgement. We had oysters, sea bass, veg and new potatoes and it...

I have to say hate giving this place a bad review.....BUT .... This is one of our favourite treats for special occasions. My wonderful partner booked for my birthday on 4 March, and the evening started off perfectly. Food is always good. Unfortunately, on this occasion, we had out starters and then asked the lady who looked like she was in charge if it was okay to pop out or a breather, and she said, of course. When we returned, our drinks and table had been completely cleared.

I work in the industry and have to say if I was at fault and removed everything I would make sure to replace it all with new stock...The fact a £25.00 bottle of wine with less than a glass out of was put to the bar for throw away.. been there for a while and then returned to our table, is disgusting with used glasses . Very unprofessional as well as unhygienic in the current climate for this type of...
