I have never had such a terrible experience as having the misfortune to enter this particular Beefeater restaurant we decided to meet with friends for a four day break, and part of the offerl was a meal deal promoted by Premier Inn, Newark on Trent. The first encounter with the manager, was one of complete lack of people skills, he was incapable of responding to any of the common courtesies such as good morning, or good afternoon, the only responses he issued were follow me, sit here, and before you were seated he was asking what do you want to drink, on the Saturday evening we ordered a starter course, and a main course, accompanied with drinks, one of our party was given the wrong drink, and our hot starter was served with our main course the whole meal was a disaster, we registered our complaint with our waitress, but that was as far as it was processed, before leaving the restaurant we asked if we requested a Sunday roast lunch, explaining that we would pay the supplement for the upgrade the answer was NO, we registered our complaint with with the duty manager Premier Inn, and requested a breakfast booking, on checking the availability we were advised that the only available time was 08-00hrs, we reported to the restaurant at approximately 07-55hrs, it was not busy but we waited at the reception desk of the restaurant. until 08-15hrs, the manager approached, the conversation was as follows from us, good morning, two times, no response to our greeting, manager curtly asks, checked in for covid, follow me, sit here, as we are about to sit, what do you want to drink, then turns and walks away, shortly the drinks arrive, and three quarters of an hour after we are still waiting for our breakfast order to be taken, meantime people who have come in after us are being served their breakfast, or finished and are leaving, we were seated in full view of the waitress, and manager, finally a waitress came to take the breakfast order of the booth next to ours, we told her we had been waiting for some considerable time, she seemed shocked, offered no explanation or apology not even to get the manager. Disgraceful way to treat paying customers, and in future it may be a good corporate exercise to train managers before letting them destroy your...
Read moreI have to declare my interest. I do not like corporate hell type hotels, of which this is typical.I booked here as a last resort when other hotels were full. Lets start with arrival. Lighting not working on the footpaths to the reception and restaurant buildings. Check in was painless. Room was as expected, but with a small TV by modern standards, 20".Entering the tied Beefeater restaurant was eventually greeted by a staff member, asked for a table for 1, the restaurant was empty, apart from 2 tables, but I suffered a 5 minute wait whilst the booking system was interrogated Shown to my table and quickly served with a pint. After that, ignored by 2 younger male staff who were running around with haste but achieving little. I asked for my order to be taken, and another pint to come with the meal. It didn't. I asked again. It didn't, I'll collect at the bar. Still lots of running around. Night 2. I arrive with colleagues, we order from the bar, quick service. Meal OK, no complaint at the price. We had 3 rounds, starting at about 0830 ish. Colleague went to the bar at 10-30. We are closed. We are resident. We close at 10-30. How come? That is Whitbread policy. What are your licensing hours please, to 2300, so why are you closed? Its Whitbread policy. Where does it say that, as your website says 2300. Its our policy. So, I have paid £135 per night over 2 nights, excluding breakfast to be treated as an inconvenience in an hotel which is designed to extract as much as possible from its clients whilst providing minimum service. I haven't mentioned the poor service in the restaurant, "do you have Lea and Perrins please, no, we don't do that. Salt pepper Vinegar, that's your lot. So, consider what you are paying, go to an independant hotel you will get service way above what this place offers for far less money, circa £70-80.i cannot recconend this hole at...
Read moreThings started off okay bit of a wait for everything from taking the order and the food coming and as they didn't seem that busy it was sort of annoying but we didn't mind the mains were amazing tasted great but the desserts were anything but the crumble was hardly hot in fact the custard was hotter not that there was much of that, then the Cherry and amaretto sundae we couldn't taste the amaretto and there was more apple than cherry pieces. We order the refillable coke's but as they didn't have a mechine we had to get the staff to sort out refills and no one came to our table at all no check backs on the food so we found it hard to order them, as they started to run out while we had out mains and none of us wanting to run around to order them and let our food go cold we were down to one glass with any liquid in (out of 4) before one of the party went up and asked for some. They also took a long time to clear tables that were around like I don't mind tables not being set but the mess of other customers I don't really like looking upon. The final straw for us was when I mentioned to a member of staff (male) that the female toilets were a mess and after at least 20-30 minutes no one had been in to clean, there was a soggy ice cream cone on the side with ice cream dripping on the floor, toilet everywhere including in a sink. I guess it could have been a bad day for them but it's still wasn't the standard of service I would expect from a restaurant and especially a chain restaurant, it's a shame that after such a lovely main they just...
