The Old Ship Inn — Restaurant in Newark and Sherwood

Had a booking to eat on a Saturday evening,place wasn't rammed with a few tables still empty. Bar was a little busy,but definitely not packed and you could move around freely and not wait to be served at the bar ....||On arrival, people effing and jeffing and there didn't appear to be enough staff.||There's was a confrontational drunk couple on the steps making some comment towards our group.||After ordering,it was a full HOUR and HALF before food arrived.||Staff were friendly and apologized for the long wait as they said it was busy.||I think it's more that they were struggling to be honest with standard Saturday night ....||Food was alright,least it was generally hot although burgers were just warm but plates hot.||Our group were pretty disappointed generally, having to wait so long..we nearly walked out .. just as the food arrived.||We all said we wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend it to be honest..for the money you'd expect better...

Do you want a really welcoming Inn, where the staff greet you warmly on arrival, where there is a well stocked bar with a good range of well kept real ales, where the restaurant has an extensive menu of well prepared meals, with all of this in a well maintained old oak beam environment, and cosy, comfortable bedrooms? Well, you cannot go wrong if you stay at The Old Ship Inn. Cosy, friendly, welcoming, comfortable, from the time we arrived on a cold winter's evening to when we left on the following morning after a tasty English breakfast. Apart from a bit expensive it seemed like a reasonably nice pub until I heard the land lady come out and screaming at people at the bar. Apparently they found something on the top of a can and asked for it to be changed to this the woman barred said party. No one in the pub would of even known there had been an issue if the land lady herself hadn't drawn attention to it Infront a full pub of people eating and drinking. She was very rude and the only one raising her voice in the whole situation. If you can't take criticism or deal with customers in a polite manner you should not be running a customer facing role.
