The Rose Cottage — Restaurant in Newark and Sherwood

We booked a table for me, my husband & 2 grandsons aged 6 & 5 today at 2.15pm after been shown to our table i had to ask the young girl if she had a napkin so we could remove food from 3 of the seats that had been left from the previous diners, then i had to ask if she could wipe the table as the table was sticky all over. It was obvious that the table had not be cleaned /checked & it wasn’t busy , if it had of been busy i would of still expected cleanliness to be of a high standard. The young girl asked if the boy’s would like some colouring pictures & pencils which they both said yes please but she quickly returned to say they had run out & didn’t have any plain paper to give them, i think it’s great to offer this for children but please brief staff on what is available or order enough colouring items to cover weekends when children are more likely to visit.the young girl gave us the menu sheets & said sorry but we don’t have any of the pizza’s available, clearly ordering need’s some attention. Our order was taken swiftly by a gentleman who was pleasant & polite , our order arrived but i was shocked when the cheeseburger for my 5 yr old grandson cheeseburger & chips arrived on a wooden serving board, not suitable for a 5 yr old to eat from at all, the food was falling off as he tried to pick up the food on his fork due to no edge like a plate would have, the boy’s chips were hard & dry looked like they were cooked at 1.15 pm & sat under heat lamps for an hour, the cheese on the burger was like rubber & he couldn’t chew it, the chicken nuggets were also dry & hard. We were a party of 11 celebrating our dads 80th birthday we were asked to pre-order our meals which was done well in advance. Upon arrival at around 6pm it took a few minutes for a member of staff to greet us, we were directed to “The Party Table” nice touch! We waited a few minutes for a drinks order and a member of the wait staff came and checked some information about our pre-order which I thought was efficient to do so. We had been told there would be a delay on the food as they were very busy which wasn’t a problem. Starters arrived my partners halloumi fries arrived later than my two nephews, they were very overcooked and one was inedible, nobody came to check on us and I did mention this to the wait staff when they cleared part of the table but nothing came out of it, half the starter plates were left on the table for ages until another member of staff came and cleared them and commented that someone forgot to clear the plates! The mains arrived after a while very sporadically with sides arriving much later than the dishes they were meant for and my nephews burger arrived a long time after everyone else was eating but as a whole the mains were to a good standard again nobody came to check back on us. We had to ask for drinks orders on a few occasions. We decided against having dessert although if the service was more attentive and the food had come out at the same time we would have. We didn’t feel looked after or feel special and that reflected in us not leaving a gratuity. What a difference 2 years make. Last visited 2022 Visited last night with friends. Staff veey pleasent but the dinning experience wasnt very good

Starters Wanted Garlic mushrooms ran out Had prawn coctail plenty of prawns but on a lettice leaf with a cherry tomato dropped on top served on a plate?? My partner had welsh rabbit with marmite it was no more than cheese on toast with marmite on bread. The price was way over inflated.

Asked for 4 belly pork only had 2 left So myself had chicken in mushroom sauce partner had chiken with a tomatoe sauce Mine was very nice but vegetables were stale. The tomato sauce very spicy The belly pork Arrived dropped on plate 6 green beans and 2 small potato cut in half Very little gravey No apple sauce and to be honest at £18 plus was a joke Pork was dry and our friends didnt enjoy

Everything asked for ... oh run out My friend and I had sponge an custard which was very nice Partner had lemmon and shortbread that was ok Other peron had oreo peanut butter He asked for ice cream and cream and custard .. waiting asked in the kitchen and was told oh stick ice cream on it I felt very sorry for the waitress who was lovely and did everything to fulfill the request. All in all Portions extremly small Vegetables poor quality. The bill was just under £150.00 for 4 of us No way was it anywhere justified I can beleive on a Friday evening at 7.30 you ran out of so much is thete a problem in the system?
