UPDATE: November 2017.
Recently taken over and renamed Knights By The Burn, by Gavin and Jenny.
As the older review below shows, I was already impressed "by the Burn", and we've been here many times since it first opened in its previous incarnation and were looking forward to what Gavin and Jenny might do with the place.
Sitting with a coffee, a steady stream of customers come and go, and on this visit with the last couple saying "their breakfast was amazing". I'd have to agree with that!
Today's visit, we had a full English breakfast, eggs Benedict (with bacon), and a couple of nice and strong coffees. Everything cooked perfectly, and with the eggs, Gavin was trying out a new hollandaise sauce that was even better than what we've had before. The sourdough toast is very addictive as well, and just tops of the breakfast offering perfectly.
Right now as I write, every table is taken, and there have been a couple of people waiting for a table... It's busy, very friendly, and all worth the wait.
All told, it's a pity I can't rate Knights higher, as it really is brilliant.
Updated photos to follow.
PREVIOUS REVIEW:
Fantastic little place, and right on my doorstep!
Just the right size on the menus, and the location is great. No matter the time of year, it's a good place to call in whether on foot, cycling, car, bus or anything what.
Wonderful addition to the village and well...
Read moreI was looking for a place to grab some breakfast on a rare morning off and someone recommended this place. They told me it could easily be missed as it is on the side of the road in a building housing other companies but it was just opposite the old KB Cycles shop. We parked higher up on the dude of the road and walked down. It is right next to a burn and there was outside seating alongside it but the weather wasn't at its best. We went inside and there is the main seating area where you place your order as well as a separate area. Plenty of tables to choose from so we sat down and looked at the menu. There is a great selection on offer but the full English had to be done along with a double espresso. Coffee arrived first and breakfast soon afterwards. It was perfect as you can see in the photo. We also took a selection of cakes home - the ginger cake was amazing. Looking at the lunch menu and specials certainly makes me want to try it again soon but but may have to spend a good part of the day there as the breakfast was do good that is what I'll be going back for first....
Read moreThis is my favourite place for breakfast, I usually have the full English and it’s perfect every time. Tried the smoked salmon and poached eggs today perfect as well. What a brilliant job the owners have done, love all the little touches, tomato ketchup in little glass jars etc. Always busy and for a good reason it’s simply the best breakfast in the north east. The cakes are that good I asked if they could make me a whole one for my 40th and they did, the only thing I would say is the prices are to low they really could charge a lot more, I know that’s a good thing but the price doesn’t reflect the absolutely perfect food. so I always leave a good tip but that’s a personal preference. Try this place you will never go...
