Went Boxing Day, only bar seating available which was absolutely fine we didn’t mind as we just walked in. Told set menus but we weren’t allowed to get soups as starters for the kids as they were ordering off a “light bites” menu which I’m sure soups a light bite anyway. No separate deserts available for the kids either who are older kids and don’t like ordering off a kids menu no more for choice more than anything. Went to order was told I couldn’t have the sea bass as was still frozen bearing in mind there were only about 4 options on the mains to start with so opted for a turkey dinner. The turkey dinner was absolutely disgusting, veg was raw couldn’t cut through any of them, apart from the sprouts. Gravy was nice though. Turkey fatty. My husband let my oldest son use his starter for a soup, carrot and parsnip but then wake if tomato was ok because the last 2 had just been sold. It opened at 12 and we were there at half 12ish so can’t understand this! Kids enjoyed their pizza but left couple slices due to being spicy and was told they should have just ordered off the kids menu, we were spending money there so it’s up to us what we eat at the end of the day regardless if their trying to save us money. Cheese boards were just shameful and the crackers disgusting just looked sad. Most staff lovely. Table wasn’t clean when we sat we had to swipe stuff off table and move wrapping paper off chairs etc. drinks absolutely lovely but will not be back at all. I can understand a menu being shortened between Xmas and new year but to have no choice and stuff unavailable was ridiculous to be honest. Not one person asked if food was ok at all during the whole time we were there either and I gave up actually trying to speak to someone after flagging down for cutlery and stuff...
Read moreWe had a voucher from a bad experience at another Vintage Inn, so as we were visiting Newcastle decided to use it at the Falcons Nest. Firstly the inside of the pub is lovely and we were shown to a nice window table which I had asked for. Staff were friendly and polite. I ordered the Chicken Skewer with choice of one side. Also added a side of Triple cooked chips. My husband chose the Trio of meats ( Sunday lunch ) and my son ordered the Chicken Parmo. My husband said the Trio £22.95 was good although a little tight on the vegetables. My son said the Parmo £18.50 , Bechamel sauce was very thin and the edges were dry. The side salad was a pile of lettuce leaves and a few bits of red onion. The triple cooked chips, good, but again a little on the tight side. My chicken Skewer £18.75 had 7 pieces of chicken and unfortunately we're very dry. I choose flat bread and humus for the side. Also added Triple cooked chips for £4.50 or I would have been hungry. The flat bread was fine, but the humus, grains and pomegranate were little more than a teaspoon smear on the plate. We had one drink each. The waitress did come and ask if everything was OK, and it was just OK. Nothing special but very over priced for both quality and quantity. We didn't complain as we were already using a voucher from a previous complaint ( at a different location ). When I paid the bill (using the voucher and card for the difference ), the person who took the payment asked if we would like to add anything to the difference ( I assume she meant a tip) I replied no. She took payments and immediately walked away with no Thankyou or goodbye. It seemed she was upset that no tip had been added. We won't use a Vintage Inn again as this seems to be the...
Read moreI have eaten at several Vintage Inns before and I have never had a problem and always enjoyed my time so obviously this was the perfect choice! However from the beginning our experience here was shocking. We arrived to be told that there was no seating available which we understood as we never reserved, to then be told that there was actually several tables available as we were about to leave. Once seated we had to wait an age to be served for drinks orders, and yet another age to wait to place the food order. Once the order arrived, and after asking 3 different servers, over 10 minutes later the sauces arrived to go with the meal - by which point half of it had gone cold before I had even gotten around to cutting it let alone eating it! No one ever came round to ask if we were okay or if we needed anything - I understand yes it may have been busy but a simple thing like bringing sauce takes a lot out of your time! The only good thing about it was our server who I believe was called Joe as he was the only helpful and apologetic person there, and if we could have given a tip and just he received then we would have left him one! All this fuss over some food which can only be described as mediocre at best. The chips were still hard in the middle for a starters, and my "medium" steak was still bloody - however after all the fuss just waiting for sauce I couldn't bring myself to have to wait another age just to sort that! Disappointed is an understatement as like I said I have always had a good experience with Vintage Inns and have dined at several however this was not a good experience and frankly...
