10 out of 10 carvery This is the third time we have been and this is definitely the best carvery we have had, we live closer to the coast but travelled here because of how nice it is. Most carvery’s Disappoint on the vegetables However, at the wheatsheaf, it’s probably their standout dish buttery sweet carrots crispy well done parsnips and tender red cabbage. The beef was perfectly tender and one of the best beef I’ve had. They have alot of selection for the vegetables & potatoes. Everything is kept fresh warm and tasty. A lot of places the veg tends to be dry or undercooked or cold. Everything is perfect here even the Yorkshires taste fresh and you can get an an extra gravy pot. We have been on a Sunday and during the week we expected it to not be as good during the week but it wasn’t it was still fabulous. The servers are all very friendly and the prices are fair. I would definitely recommend. Top points - Beef, carrots, mash potatoes, parsnips

Absolutely love this place... Quite regularly go for the Sunday carvery, and as we enjoy it so much, we booked in for Christmas dinner(my first ever time eating out for Xmas Dinner). Our first booking was sadly cancelled due to covid, but alas we made it for 2021... Stilton and mushroom on top of brochetta, then off to the food bar to fill up our plates with ham, turkey, and beef with a selection of delicious roasted vegetables(and I mean delicious mmm).. A choice of 2 gravies, one with onion, and one without... a selection of sauces too... Too full to eat pudding so the staff happily boxed ours up to take out. Staff are very accommodating and are eager to make your stay welcoming and comfortable. There is ample sitting positions in a very spacious room... I recommend this place to everyone... See you soon I'm sure 😃

We visited as a family and had a lovely meal. The restaurant has undergone some changes since our last visit. It's now much larger and open planned. Like I say, the food was lovely. Starters, main and desert and the place itself is nice and relaxing and comfortable. The staff were friendly and answered any questions we had, although I would like to point out one girl in particular who works behind the bar only seemed to smile if she was chatting to her colleagues. I assume she'd had a hectic bank holiday shift, but be a bit more pleasant with customers and at least greet them with a smile. On the other hand the two guys that waited our table were great. Really friendly and chatty. That's much better service. All in all, apart from the girl behind the bar, we had a lovely time at your restaurant.

When this place first opened it was amazing, we then continued to go back and we then noticed that it was going further and further downhill. I find that their main menu food is fine such as the burgers but the carvery is awful! I'm not really a carvery lover at the best of times and we stopped going to The Tobey because that was also going rapidly downhill. Me and the family had planned to visit our local pub across the road from us for a Sunday roast however, annoyingly they had sold out so my parents suggested this place. I knew there was a pretty high chance I wasn't going to like it and my guess was right - I had the turkey and the beef, the turkey was full of gristle and the beef was tasteless.

The veg was also questionable and just generally not nice, the whole plate was just tasteless mush and so I ended up pushing most of it to one side, the tastiest part was the gravy! The only positive I can say and the reason I have given 2 stars instead of just 1, is the fact that all the staff we encountered that day were happy and friendly so it's a shame that the food lets them down so badly, we won't be visiting again sadly as it was just a waste of money for me when due to the cost of living crisis, eating out at restaurants is a rare treat these days! Save your money and...

Well, I keep giving this place a chance, iv visited the restaurant over many many years. I'm so so sorry to say it's getting worse. They cut the meat with a razor blade. The roast potatoes which I love are like rubber. I mean RUBBER. I went a few Sunday's ago, around 5pm. The food was to stop at 8.30pm. No meat except turkey. No beef, no pork, no gammon. All gone. The Turkey I got was shredded. Extremely small amount, obviously they had to make it last until the food stopped. You pay more on a sunday because they add pork to the catvary. The food dishes were empty or almost empty. A man in front of me asked if there was and mashed potatoes?. I had to take the hot lid off the roast potatoes behind the empty dish. Yes you got it, plastic roasties again. A member of staff came out of the kitchen. The carver and the guy who came out started to argue. It was manic. I live alone and came for a take out, I got a box, no gravy carton or bag. I got my food home and I am not lying I ate 2 mouths full and the rest went in the bin. Iv said it for the last time. I AM NOT GOING BACK. I feel bad putting this as it's harmful to their business and might affect jobs and I'm not that kind of person but I'm not wasting another...

From the very first bite to the final spoonful, our meal was nothing short of exceptional. We came in with high hopes — and left utterly impressed!

🍔 Hunter’s Chicken Burger This burger was an absolute showstopper. Juicy grilled chicken breast wrapped in crispy bacon, smothered in rich, smoky BBQ sauce, and topped with perfectly melted cheese — all hugged by a soft, toasted bun. Every bite was packed with bold, comforting flavour. The balance of sweet, savoury, and smoky was simply next level.

🍛 Chicken Tikka Masala Creamy, fragrant, and bursting with authentic spices, the tikka masala was a total triumph. Tender chunks of chicken swimming in a velvety tomato-based sauce that had just the right kick — not overpowering, but warming and deeply satisfying. Paired with fluffy rice and warm naan, this dish was the definition of comfort food with flair.

👨‍🍳 A Special Shout-Out to Lee Service can make or break a dining experience, and Lee made ours unforgettable. Warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food — he took the time to walk us through the menu and made us feel completely at home. It’s rare to find someone who combines professionalism with such a personal touch. Lee,...
