To maximise the experience of this cafe, best to dress like you have been kicked through Marks & Spencer, or perhaps try to emulate the tennis player fashion of early Wham videos. Adherence to these fashion norms will ensure your vist to the café is pleasant one, as it will make it easy for the staff to identify your social status, rather than make clunky presumptions, as to if your presence should be tolerated for longer than the time that it takes to complete the sales transaction. You could always consider fanny's rest stop, or perhaps some sort of retailer that supplies similar products from roadside on popular A and B routes in the area. These more common vendors have less of an understanding of appropriate attire and will basically serve anybody. Moreover, their casual approach to class profiling leaves them unable to choose who should evacuated from the immediate area, should some better sort arrive to purchase items. A common issue in food vendors, and I am sure we have all felt the anxiety, of hoping those in casual attire on the adjacent table have the sufficient fork skills, and do not resort to using their grubby hands to eat. Luckily the staff in this establishment have obviously attended basic class awareness training, and can proactively determine your socio-economic status, allowing them to eject you from the premises moments after they have gelled their hands at the disgust of handling your soiled cash. Contacless payments are preferred to prevent cross class contamination, and it also offers a more speedy method of ejecting your sort from the establishment. Please try to remember that the inclusive attitude that was present when this building was a public toilet, is no longer a prerequiste at the site, but the spirit of an access point to the sewage system lives on in the actions of the staff...
Read moreThe cafe at Ridgeway is hands down our favorite coffee spot in Newport! Every visit here has been a treat, but our bonfire night visit this year was truly special. The cafe had a bustling crowd, but even with the high footfall, the staff kept the service excellent and impressively quick.
We loved grabbing a hot dog from the stall outsideâit was a perfect touch for the evening festivities. The food and drinks are always top-notch here: their cheesecakes are to die for, the blondies are perfectly rich, and the hot chocolates are incredibly cozy and delicious. Itâs clear the cafe takes pride in everything they serve.
The cafe is also wonderfully kid-friendly, with cakes and kid-sized hot chocolates that our little ones love! Accessibility is well thought out, too; the main seating area and cafe are fully accessible, which we really appreciate. Just note that there are a couple of steps up to the pod area if youâre thinking about booking one of those cozy, intimate spaces.
The place is always spotless, and the team goes above and beyond to make sure everyone feels welcome. At The Ridgeway is truly a gem in Newportâamazing food, drinks, and friendly, consistent service every time. Canât wait to...
Read moreWhat a beautiful coffee shop and bar, situated at the best view in Newport! On a clear day the vista of the western valley is amazing. Great place to exercise yourself and the dog before heading for a creamy latte. I've watched this place grow since it opened from a public toilet to a cafe. Now it has quaint private booths that you can use for 40 mins or rent for longer... I've seen a few negative reviews, what more do people want, some people think they're looking for a Michelin Star in a busy bussling cafĂ©, please look at the big picture of the views, the drink, the exercise and relaxation you can have! Stay humble and be thankful! In my humble opinion, this is the best cafĂ© bar in Newport. Shame it's not open for longer than 6 pm, as I would use it until darkness to watch the sun go down. You'll love the place, friendly staff, speedy service plus you can have a wine or beer. Parking is free and plentiful. MOST IMPORTANT TO ME, IT'S DOG đ...
