We have been visiting the Isle of wight on and off for over 20 years and the eight bells has always been a favourite of ours, however this year our experience there was nothing like before. First off we stood at the door and a barmaid shouted from behind the bar to ask if we had booked and what our name was, then pointed towards a table and said it's over there, your name is on it, there is a sign up telling you to download and order through their app which I'm more than used to in these days of the pandemic so did and ordered our food. 2 sharing starters and 4 mains. The mains were bought out and when questioned they said they were about to bring out the other dishes as they didn't know that we wanted them as starters so we had to ask for the mains to be returned, the server blamed us for not thinking to put in a comments box that we would like our mains separate from our starters. Then about 20 mins after we finished our starters the waiter asked us in a very patranising tone if we were ready for our mains which we were so he bought them to us. The food was exsesivly hot and soggy like it had been microwaved rather than us being given fresh food. When we left we were not acknowledged at all.
This is nothing like the eight bells that we had loved...
Read moreIt was terrible time… We ordered our favorite table two weeks before our birthday. When we arrived, our table was given to other people and it was very unpleasant. When I asked why we were not informed about this, they told me that I was not polite .Then we ordered (as always food) but they brought us the wrong amount (we were four children and they brought one burger, although I even pointed with my fingers). I understand that my English is not very good, but a male- waiter works here and he is always polite and undastood everything. But this woman always (we came to this cafe very often) always treated us not kind. They told us to sit next to the children in the playroom. But I don't understand why need playroom? Isn't it so that the parents can rest and the children play? And when I sat in the game, none of parents was looking after the different kids. When i asked.they say-I am rude. I am very upset. But the food here is good, that's why I put 4 stars 😉 By the way, they don't have a book of complaints, they don't know their names By the way, we sat for1hour 30min hours and the table was not occupied. Sorry, but i did not drink my...
Read moreI recently visited The Ei8ht Bells on the Isle of Wight and had an absolutely delightful experience. The child's soft indoor play area was a standout feature, providing a safe and entertaining space for kids. What impressed me even more was the staff's proactive approach in checking the area for defects and ensuring a warm atmosphere by promptly turning on the heater.
Now, onto the food – the chips were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The hot sandwiches were a highlight, especially the vegetarian sausage one, which was surprisingly delicious. The menu caters to various tastes, and the quality of the ingredients truly shines through.
I must commend the friendly and helpful demeanor of the barman. His recommendations and attentiveness added to the overall positive experience. The Ei8ht Bells is a fantastic pub with a welcoming atmosphere, great food, and thoughtful amenities for families. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Isle of Wight!
I'm sorry for no pictures of the food as it was too tasty to stop and look at!
((Also the toilet facilities were...
