Swan Inn — Restaurant in North East Derbyshire

It’s a shame its now fronted by ignorant, rude and inexperienced kids. We’ve been coming here for the last 25yrs and the last two times we’ve visited we’ve had almost exactly the same experience. The food is quite nice but the service is terrible.

The last time we came one of the staff said “why have you let them sit outside without paying…” literally whilst I was stood at the bar waiting to pay! I called them up on it and they pretended they were talking about another table even though they quoted our table number.

We visited again on Sunday and both times I went to the bar for drinks one of the young ladies said “get table 7 off in 10 mins as we’ve another booking waiting” then at my second visit she said “has someone told table 7 to go yet??” NOBODY told us we had less than 2hrs (table of 12) to turnaround our table upon booking. We had reserved a table, arrived and told where to sit with the drinks we ordered. After ordering the food, we waited and were happy when our food came. At that point we were told were needed to move tables as there was a large table coming and they needed our table. We moved from table 6 to table 4, squashed in the corner on a wobbly table. Moving our belongings, drinks and food. At this point my meal of steak, was cold and I returned this. My partner ate his meal and mine arrived after he had finished his, not quite the meal out together we were hoping for. My partner once I had finished ordered a dessert, Apple crumble and custard. This toom a considerable time to come and was luke warm at best. We went to pay and not asked if our meal was ok or offered any apologies for the experience. Possibly the worst dining experience of my life .Not been in for years but was invited on our family goodbye night out ,I wasn't expecting much looking at the menu other than hearty pub grub but does just about every meal have to come with chips ? Even salmon ! So the food was disappointing and not cheap but the large portions of mostly carbohydrates attracts a certain dinner of which the pub quickly filled up with .One such family party took over maybe half the tables and were so loud and badly behaved that we eventually had to leave as we couldn't have a conversation .Clearly the staff ignored the situation ,it was like being on the reservation and we will not be going in this establishment...
