Used to call to the Phoenix 35 years ago when I was 1st dating my now wife, she's from Mosborough, myself Rotherham. I don't have any bad memories of the place apart from the double exit car park exit used to be treacherous, which eventually lead to someone crashing into my wife's car on the brow of the hill. Now blocked off so... Anyway. Lovely place, decor is very comfortable and a wide variety of interesting ales. Not easy finding somewhere that does a 16oz T-Bone but now, indeed, I've found one of my happy places hehe... T-Bone and an Abbots and I'm set :) cracking menu and service! A review, of this review. Although the service and atmosphere remains very nice, last night ordered what was supposed to be a 32oz Tomahawk steak. Prepared nicely but I would day more like a 14oz at most.

Not the best experience unfortunately. It seemed like half the menu was unavailable and the staff didn't know what was available and what wasn't so ordering took multiple attempts. Once the food arrived there were several items missing that we had to remind the staff we'd ordered. The food we got was "ok" for pub food but next time I want Hunter's Chicken I'll get a ready meal from a supermarket and get the same thing for cheaper. A few lettuce leaves with no dressing is also not "dressed salad garnish".

We had my baby shower here on a Saturday afternoon. Large space designated for us privately. Food provided were really nice and presented lovely. Staff couldn’t do anymore for us, everything we asked for they provided. Only thing that disappointed me was there were no music coming from the speakers which I had only realised half way through, however they provided me with a Bluetooth speaker which solved the problem. I would definitely recommend hosting your baby shower or any private event here.

We visited recently to celebrate my daughters graduation and nealry all of us came away disappointed. Having ordered the turkey carvery, at first it looked impressive, but on closer inspection everything just seemed to be mushed together doused in gravy and hidden underneath a large Yorkshire pudding. The roast potatoes were soft with no crispness at all, the turkey and veg was very bland and the Yorkshire pudding was like cardboard. We also ordered the pigs in blanket on the side which came with undercooked bacon around a rock hard sausage, as though it had been sitting for some time, even though were told it was all cooked frsh. We also ordered extra potatoes which were the same as the ones on the plate, so I can't blame the gravy!

My son ordered the cheeseburger which was just as hard as the sausage and he couldn't even finish half of it.

Very disappointed as I have been here a few times and the phone has always been spot on. I remember coming when the had an extensive selection of pies and you got that homemade feeling with the food but the pub now feels like any of the other large chain pubs out there.

I could perhaps be a bit less harsh if they had been particularly busy but they weren't, and it was a Sunday so I'm guessing they would've been prepared for a few extra customers, but as it was relatively quiet I can't see why the food would be so poor.

Doubt we will return...

For it been a greene king chain pub i was really disapointed with the standard of food , we pre ordered our food as we was a party for a 60th the food took a while to arrive and when it did my mixed grill was very unappealing ,thin under cooked chips my steak was burnt on outside but rare in middle no yoke left on egg . My wife had very crispy scampi that was over cooked one oher guest had rib eye steak that was tough and full of fat he left most of it ,chicken was dry and over cooked on another guests skewers. But the low star for service was a dig at our group by the waitress coming in with the orders she was shouting them out and admittedly some guests were talking a lot (as we are scattered all over the county and don't see each other a lot as have busy lives) she shouted we are trying to get dinners out so if you be quite we will do it a lot better ,I know she has a hard job and it was busy but talking to us like a group of school children is not the way to do it. Other than that the pub was clean bar staff were friendly and quick loverly beer garden I will put the food down to it been a big group so won't put me off calling in again while we are collecting our dog from mosborough boarding kennels in the next...

Had my mums 70th birthday party here today and it was awful on every level. The attitude of the staff was pretty much like we weren't welcome - no one even thought to wish my mum a happy birthday. I asked for some music on 3 times and was really friendly and polite and was told they are a restaurant and not that kind of pub??? Bizarre response. It's not like I was asking for a disco, just some background music would have given it some atmosphere rather than silence. Food wise, out of 30+ meals not one person enjoyed it. Found cling film in one of the salads, steak over cooked and told "the chef has got it as close as possible" to medium rare when it resembled boot leather??? Even the chips were overcooked. I've eaten here loads in the past and even had my dad's wake here and it was so unbelievably bad today I'll never go back. Customer service is clearly dead and we had to laugh at the ridiculous excuses as to the state of the food and the fact that no one cared whatsoever. One young waiter who worked hard bringing the food out was the only good thing I can comment on. I suggest he gets a job somewhere better before the attitude of the rest of the staff drag him down to...
