First time eating at Beefeater. Chose it for Christmas dinner as the menu sounded nice after looking at all options in the area. We made a mistake in choosing them and it was a subpar meal for an extortionate amount of money. £60 a head sounded reasonable, we weren't looking for gourmet and high end, just something tasty that we didn't have to cook. We arrived and had to wait for about ten minutes, no biggie, were promptly seated and asked what drinks we wanted. The table was set up nicely with two Christmas crackers, which included a token wooden ornament inside. The server, a very lovely, bubbly chap arrived to ask how I wanted my steak and informed us that he'd put in our order and grab our drinks. I ordered the cheese fondue for a starter, sirloin steak for main, and apple pie with ice cream for dessert. My partner ordered chicken pate, salmon, and profiteroles. It went downhill from there. The starters arrived and I had a nice big bowl of cheese fondue with ONE wispy piece of bread. Well, you don't want to waste all that cheese, so asked the other grumpy server if we could get more bread. He brought out a bowl with ONE more wispy piece of bread, which was halved to share with my partner to assist with eating the pate as she also had received just ONE piece of wispy bread. Wow, stingy, much? Absolute waste of cheese. Next up, mains. To be fair, my steak was tasty and the best steak I've ate at a restaurant in the UK so far, which is saying something since I've been to Miller and Carter. However, after removing the fat (I know some like it, I don't), my steak became quite small. I would guess I was left with about 4oz in the end. The roast potatoes was good. The puff pastry with field mushroom and spinach was okay, but why? A bit more steak, more roasties, and some cauliflower cheese or just some broccoli would have been nice, maybe with a Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was okay. For my partner, she said the salmon was nicely cooked, possibly a bit overcooked on the skin side, but could not understand why it was served skin down. It was served with broccolini and garlic herb potatoes, which were okay. She said the tomato sauce was delicious though. Now, the dessert was a disaster. Partner said the profiteroles were okay, nothing special. My apple pie came with custard when I had ordered it with ice cream, so had to return. Not a big deal, it happens. Oh, the slop they returned with, oh my. It looked like the dredges scavenged from the pie tin. I don't care about pretty, so not a huge issue. The taste was a whole different story. Yuck! It tasted like the pastry was undercooked. After further investigation, you could see and feel the pastry was undercooked. Obviously, the apple pie wasn't cooked properly and they thought the microwave would fix it later? The clotted cream ice cream was okay, which is the only thing I ate. We were wholeheartedly disappointed with our meal. We had planned to have another drink, a longer chat, and enjoy our coffee and mince pie that comes with the meal. We didn't wait for the coffee and mince pie. We didn't even wait for the server to ask if we wanted our check. We went straight to the server cash out point. Grumpy server never asked why we weren't staying for the coffee and mince pie. Unfortunately, the bubbly server had left earlier as he stopped by to let us know he was leaving. On the way out, another customer stopped and asked us what we thought and we told her we definitely weren't going to go again next year. She agreed and could not believe that we were served such poor food for the price. She was absolutely flabbergasted and we concur with her opinion. Unbelievable. I think next year we'll stay home and...
Read moreI stayed at the premier inn and the restaurant is next door, when we went in it struck me that the glass on the doors was grubby to all doors and could do with a clean we ordered a drink at the bar and had to wait for quite a while to be served, it was obvious they did not have enough staff even though the restaurant was quite empty, we took our drink outside to the garden all the tables where full of dirty plates and glasses which did not look great, we went into the restaurant and ordered our meal which took quite a while even though the place was relatively empty, we waited and waited and then managed to get the waiter to ask when the bottle of wine would come, he went away and came back full of apologies saying that they had not received the order, he gave, it eventually arrived, our meal was delivered and as we had had quite a bad experience we were determined to enjoy it, i ordered fillet steak, when i went to cut it with the steak knife provided it was extremely difficult, i tried in a few places but it was just gristle all the way through, i didn't want to make a scene so i left the table to have a quite word with the waitress she came across and looked at it an agreed that it was very bad and said sometimes you get a bad one it depends on whats delivered, she asked if i wanted to change it but i said i would just leave it, my wife started to eat hers which was a rump steak and half of hers was the same we showed to the waitress and she agreed and took it away she did say that neither would be charged for which was good, the garlic prawns and truffle butter where a complete ripoff i don't know if they have ever had them, the prawns were burnt and dried up and the truffle butter tasteless, maybe we just were unlucky but the lack of staff seemed to be an issue that was noticeable to everyone, the whole place needs a good clean, starting with the windows and window seals, the whole interior is in dire need of a good clean and a makeover, i would not recommend this to anyone and we certainly will not be going again. breakfast seemed a bit better service i only had a light breakfast steering clear of the...
Read moreMy wife and I met my mother and her partner here for lunch today . We intended to use the taste card which entitled us to 2 for 1 on starters , mains and deserts. My wife ate here 2 weeks previous and was able to use the taste card ,but today we were informed by the gentlemen serving that they no longer accept taste card . Although this was a disappointment will still decided to order the meals. As soon as the payment transaction went through the member of staff serving us then proceeded to tell us that there are vouchers being sent out via email with discounts of up to 50% off the total bill ! Very useful information after we had paid full price , needless to say my wife checked her emails and had received a voucher for 33% off the total bill . They declined to give us the discount as the transaction had gone through. The mains were nice enough , but £15.99 for a stuffed chicken breast wrapped in panchetta , some sauce and 9 chips in small pot did not feel like good value for money. There was not enough staff Serving , our lunch plates were still on the table when the deserts arrived ( we ordered deserts as we then used the 33% off voucher towards the cost of them ). However the deserts were disappointing . My wife had the chocolate melting bomb , the warm chocolate sauce was not hot enough and didn't melt through the chocolate shell . Therefore she couldn't break most of the hard chocolate shell to eat it. Also despite the lack of staff and the fact that it was relatively busy , two members of staff still found time to hold a social conversation for about 5 minutes stood very closely to waiting customers, some waiting to pay , some waiting for a table . Unfortunately as a result , we don't Intend to return...
