Visited for lunch. The menu looked promising however unfortunately that promise was unfulfilled.
I ordered Nachos for a shared starter and a Chicken ‘Sizzler’(otherwise known as Fajitas). Possibly two of the easiest dishes to prepare that have ever found their way onto a pub menu.
Bad choice - I’m not sure how it is possible to get nachos wrong but they managed it here. Perhaps it was the way that the chips, cheese AND the Salsa were thrown together and then nuked, I suspect in a microwave but possibly they did use the oven. Result - soggy chips and a sloppy mess served without any Guacomole because they had run out … but the kitchen did not tell the server so no apology.
Next the Chicken Sizzler. Now I’m not a chef but I know this dish is normally cooked by griddling the chopped veg until they are just cooked, sometimes slightly charred. I’m not sure the veg in this dish ever went anywhere near a griddle or similar. My guess is that the was simply heated in a microwave and then topped with microwaved chicken pieces that had been supplied pre-cooked complete with ‘fake’ char-grill lines. To be fair the chicken was OK but the veg was limp, tasteless and was served swimming in an oily, watery liquid (see photo). How is it possible to make such a mess of what is a simple dish? I was later told that the peppers are supplied pre-sliced; maybe knives are not allowed in that kitchen, I suspect the disgusting liquid they were served in was in the plastic bag they were delivered in.
Quite frankly the Nachos and the Sizzler were the worst examples of these dishes I have ever been served with. My Mum’s scampi and chips looked OK but the Scampi was absolutely scolding inside ….. I suspect the good old microwave may have been pushed into action again.
Good points, at least it was open on a Monday lunchtime, my Latte was OK, and the staff were all friendly. We won’t however...
Read moreCame today for a meal haven't been in for a while and picked the day the good chef must of been off Started bad when my diet Pepsi was flat and the replacement wasn't much better
Ordered food and requested the starters came out with the mains as they were actually my picky eater teenagers meal ... goujons and halloumi fries ... sadly they came out 35 mins before the other meals We mentioned this to the serving staff they said said they were starters and they weren't informed to not send them by the person who took the order got a "sorry" but basically they couldn't care less .
Halloumi was over cooked but the goujons were amazing ... was sad that my daughter had to eat alone and then spend half an hour to watch us eat
Next meal was a cathedral burger ... wasn't great the onion rings are a hazard to health that much fat coming out of them should of had its own heart attack warning .. the pulled pork was nuked
Next meal mixed grill ... the biggest dissapointment ( as it was mine ) I've had one here before and it was amazing
Not this time ... medium steak came out medium rare onion rings just literally oozing fat...the chips were nice the peas were cold The egg solid and over cooked the rest was OK The peppercorn sauce ... well ... I don't know what I was given but that wasn't it it was strongly flavoured with aniseed totally uneatable
Serving staff asking all the tables if everything was OK totally bypassed our table clearly didn't care what we thought about the meal so I decided to post a review instead normally I wouldn't have bothered .
As I said I have been here before an had great meals but the absolute disregard for the customer service or lack of even a decent apology makes me think I won't be returning
Which is a shame as the steak pie there was out of this world... sadly wasn't on the...
Read moreDisappointing. Went to The Bull for Christmas Dinner this year and despite numerous phone calls during the lead up to Christmas to make sure that a Gluten Free dessert would be available for myself this was not the case. The starter and main were perfect, Gluten Free alterations were made and it tasted amazing, however, when it came to dessert everyone else had been given their dessert and I was sitting there waiting for my promised Gluten Free Vanilla and Blackcurrent Cheesecake. We asked the waitress where my dessert was and she went to find out for us, she continued to serve other people for another 5 minutes until we called her again asking where the dessert was, she answered us whilst walking away from us with her back turned and in a very rude manner, she returned after another 5 minutes to finally tell us that they didn't have the dessert, baring in mind everyone else at the table had finished their dessert. She then offered me a 'cheese board' instead, I refused this offer as I simply do not like cheese. The staff insisted that the Gluten Free Vanilla and Blackcurrent Cheesecake was part of their December menu therefore they would have plenty in the freezer ready for me on Christmas Day. I then ended up settling for some crushed up Meringue and fruit sauce to go with it, not exactly what I was expecting. We were then told the Chef would come out and apologise to us for the mistake, this never happened either. All good and well until the dessert incident. Usually a very...
