We first came across farmhouse inns about 18 months ago by accident at their sheffield branch. That was brilliant, and today we were passing windmill farm and as is part of the farmhouse in range we would give it a really try as we were hungry and it had been a long day. I let you know that we were in the car park and Frankie and Benny’s was next to Windmill Farm but we decided to go for what we thought would be ‘pub grub.’ We now wish we’d have gone to Frankie and Benny’s.
We went in and it says find your table and then order at the bar with table number. We were looking at the Carvery items before going to a table we had provisionally decided to sit at. At this point a senior male staff member passed us and said “three (there were 3 of us), table there”and pointed to a small table in the corner, not the one we had wanted. It was more of an order than us having a choice. Our daughter is autistic so didn’t want to create a fuss about not wanting the small table in the corner.
My wife and daughter went to order and pay and our daughter came back to the table and said they had been served by the wicked witch? I asked what she meant and she and my wife said that she was very miserable and unhelpful and rude being very blunt.
The glasses they were given were filthy and I photographed these, we asked a very polite waitress whom kindly went and washed and dried them before returning them advising she had done her best, but they were useable. Whilst I hate to tier staff it did seem like the floor staff (lower grades), were very polite and helpful whilst bar staff were terrible.
I went for the Chip shop fish supper which was horrible: Chips were bland and floppy, curry sauce was nice, scampi was good, cod tasted and looked like a pre battered/pre prepared frozen one which was soggy underneath. The battered sausage was horrible- the batter was fresh but it looked like they had battered a frozen sausage, as the sausage was sloppy and slimy. It put me right off and I couldnt eat the meal.
I bought cake for take out for my wife and met the blunt lady on the till, I was speaking to another customer about her and he agreed she was rude and miserable (so I didn’t have too high standard expectations).
I pointed to the cake I wanted a slice of and of course named it and the unhelpful lady went somewhere and came back with a pre boxed piece of cake with white choc written on side. So it never came fresh from the cake which was advertised on sale.
We have just got home and my wife has left it as it not a white chocolate cheescake, the consistency is a mousse with granted white chocolate shavings but flavourless. Not tasting like a cheesecake at all.
We visit our daughter in Lincoln often however after todays experience we will not...
Read moreJust been for lunch with my daughter. We go out every week and she suggested we try their new lunchtime menu, "Yorkie Wraps". Well what a disaster. We waited 40 minutes for our meal to arrive and it just got worse as things went on. I ordered the beef and horseradish sauce. When it came I sent it back because there was virtually no meat in the Yorkie and no Horseradish sauce. My daughter's meal was cold, no cranberry sauce with her turkey, that she had ordered, and what I can only describe as a line of congealed scum around the top of her gravy boat. Needless to say that got sent back as well. When the replacement meals were delivered they were not very good either, the beef I received I can only compare to shoe leather, it was dry and tough. When the man who claimed to be one of the managers asked if all was ok, I told him I was not impressed and that the beef was dry, all he did was say it's the same as the carvery and walk away, no offer to compensate in any way at all, and I am afraid we both left disgusted by the experience. Needless to say we will not be returning, which is a shame as we have been there on numerous occasions for the carvery and have always enjoyed it. I have just been contacted by the management of Windmill Farm, and they could not have been more apologetic and have offered some compensation for the treatment we received yesterday. I have said that I accept their apology and it's a pity this situation ever aroze. I am happy that they actually contacted me to resolve the situation and we will certainly give them another visit, as this is the only time we have had cause to complain. 5 out of 5 for sorting the...
Read moreWe were greeted by a friendly female who I assume was the duty manager perhaps on entering the pub. We were shown straight to a table which I thought was great service. No waiting like you do in some restaurants. We went to the bar to buy drinks & pay for the carveries, we met a rude young man who wasn’t the friendliest of characters at all. He had zero customer service skills, not friendly or helpful - just disinterested. Afterwards we went up to the carvery deck, my father in law didn’t hear what the carver said to him, so I let my father in law know & made a joke about selective hearing to the carver. The carver then came to serving me, and was completely ignorant & didn’t speak to me at all, Which I found quite disheartening. What had I done to warrant such behaviour? The food was ok, although the mash tasted like smash, carrots were soggy & meat wasn’t the best quality. We decided to have a pudding afterwards though, chocolate brownies with either vanilla flavour ice cream/cream or custard. Why isn’t that dairy ice cream, if you’re paying £5.50 for it. I didn’t have any ice cream or sides with my dessert. Long story short, the brownie was nice, but it wasn’t a brownie at all. It was a chocolate sponge with chocolate fudge sauce over the top of it. You get a huge portion so that’s a plus, but it isn’t a brownie. Be careful if you can’t have sponge with the brownie!! The last thing I wanted to mention was regarding the female who was showing people to tables, if you are going to complain about customers or have a go at staff, please do it a little more quietly. It is very unprofessional to do it so...
