Just a perfect stay. Located across the church at a 3 way cross road, the Wiverton Bell is absolutely one of the best places I have stayed in. Working in the travel industry, I have stayed in some of the most amazing hotels around the world, and this 6 bedroom pub made my top 10. The team at the Wiverton Bell showcased an exemplary level of hospitality at it's best. They understood who their guests were, may they have been a single traveller in the area for a wedding or a family with young children needing assistance or a more mature couple on a walking escapade. The team anticipated our needs and treated all of us as cherished regulars from the 1st step we took onto the property. This generosity of sharing and welcoming was also present in the meals they serve at lunch and dinner in the pub. With local (as often as possible) and great quality produce, I was lucky enough to enjoy a couple of dishes at the property. My room was lovely, the amenities were nice and the breakfast was the perfect surprise. Indeed it was a continental one with the fresh elements served in cool bags left outside your room for you to take when you are ready. And, in your room you have a great selection of quality teas, coffees, cereal and all the crockery you'd need. Oh yes, as if all of this was not enough, to enjoy the setting when you arrive, you are advised that you have a complimentary mini bottle of prosecco waiting for each one of you in the fridge. Thank you the Wiverton Bell for a great stay. I look forward to...
Read moreA special dinner out to celebrate whilst on holiday. We liked the pub layout its ambience and decor. We went through to the bar to have a drink before our dinner and asked for a cocktail. The bar attendant told me three she could do but nothing I reliahed so.asked for a dry rose. A lovely glass of Sancerre but goodness when our bill came and we saw the price we were shocked £13.85. A completely unacceptable price. The beers not well kept as they went flat quickly were £5.50. A group of four sat in frint if the bar almost blocking access. No apology no willingness to move was not a good start. Our meal was underwhelming. Starters were fine the crab beignet and the black garlic with flat bread. However my husbands burger and chips at £19 was tough. How can a burger be tough. The meat looked grey. The chips were delicious but no side salad or veg just a little salad in the roll. My watercress and goats cheese risotto was relatively bland had it not been for the five pieces of goats cheese scatteted on top. The risotto sat in the middle of a large plate congealing around the edges and it was quite stodgy. No slippery shiny smooth risotto gracing my plate sadly. The gentleman taking our order enteted into conversation after we ate but no mention of the meal we tad eaten. How odd not to want feedback. We would not return or...
Read moreSack the Chef - is what I say. I am giving this one star as there was no option to give zero. Last Monday evening my husband and I visited the Wiveton Bell and were tempted by the Baked Alaska suite, which boasted 'crisp', 'dry' meringue. On its arrival, the meringue turned out to be nothing more than a sweet sickly whitemush of marshmallow. There was nothing remotely crisp or dry about it, nor had there ever been, it was not a case of leaving the kitchen in said crisp mode and deteriorated on the way to the table. We scraped the mountain of mush off and had some of the sponge and ice cream. The waiter on cursorily asking if our meal was satisfactory, seemed stunned when I commented on the state of the meringue, and at my request, said he would speak to the Chef. No feedback - forgive the pun - was forthcoming and on making payment I enquired if he had passed my complaint to the Chef, he airily said he had done so and that the Chef was sorry we had not enjoyed it! End of! I said was he going to try harder and he said yes he would be practising with the blowtorch - which I think says it all. How they had the nerve to charge £12 is beyond me. On leaving the premises I saw that there were advertisements on the door for kitchen staff and the like - let's hope that...
