It was our first time visiting here on Fathers Day and my partner and I were very disappointed. We had heard really good things about this pub and so we were looking forward to having a meal here to celebrate Fathers Day. From the outside the pub looks lovely and welcoming, what you would expect from a country pub. When we arrived, we were 10 mins earlier than our booking. We had only just sat down and were asked what drinks (which yes that's usual) but then we were asked by 3 different members of staff if we were ready to order our food. We had only just had chance to look at the menu and the children's menu hadn't even been given to us. They assumed that our child wasn't going to eat off the menu due to him being young. After feeling like we were rushed we just made a quick decision, my son and I had the carvery and my partner had the burger. I was asked if my little one wanted a bowl or a plate for his food- If I had known or been told about the portion sizes beforehand I probably would have got him just a bowl or given him some of mine but this wasn't communicated so I ended up spending only £2 less on his meal than my own. I did say to the waitress who took our food orders that he usually does have a plate at home but obviously didn't realise that I'd be charged that much. We found the service was unprofessional, we had 3 different people hosting us and it wasn't clear in who the staff were working there. I feel it would have been a nice gesture to have wished my partner a happy fathers day. It wasn't acknowledged at all in the pub that it was Fathers Day. The food wasn't great, my little one who would usually eat a big portion of food hardly touched it and only ate the Yorkshire pudding. I wasn't a big fan myself of the carvery and my partner didn't like his meal either. We all ended up leaving a lot of the meal. We were asked whether we would like to look at the desserts menu, we said no straight away and asked for the bill as we just wanted to get out as soon as we could. I had to change my son before we left and I couldn't find any baby changing facilities anywhere even though it states that it's a family friendly pub so had to change him in the boot of our car which is not ideal.
Unfortunately it just wasn't a nice experience for any of us and sadly I don't think we will be returning which is disappointing given that we had good expectations. I'm more sad at the fact that it was Fathers Day and im just thankful that it wasn't my partners 1st one although it had still put a downer on the day.
We have dined at The Red Lion and The White Lion which are in the same area as The Bull & Butcher and we've never had any problems with either of those. We have always enjoyed the food there and felt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbsolutely appalled at the lack of awareness the members of staff have for disabled people. I went to this pub for lunch on the 22nd of December and I have a blue badge, i went to park at the disabled spot, which the space was covered by half with outside tables and benches. Thus, I had to park at a distance and obviously was not ideal for anyone with a blue badge. When I addressed this with a young host, I was informed when I asked to speak to the manager, that the owner had been off with flu for 3 weeks, and her daughter was busy. She did not ask me for the reason or say let me get someone who can help, but promptly gave me a lot of unnecessary and time wasting information. When I told her I will be putting my complaint in writing, she promptly burst into tears. Her unprofessionalism perplexed both myself and my guest as I was explaining how difficult my situation was that the unthoughtfulness of staff to have placed tables and benches covering the disable parking.
Then what I would deem a rather zealous individual working at the pub, with gauge or plug earrings decided to tell me in the most patronising tone that as "I had upset a member of staff" I could be asked to leave. This individual did not apologise for the distress an obvious discrimination that I faced. In fact when I mentioned the sufferance that I faced, this individual told me that "it was not much discrimination!" Thereby, with sheer stupidity admitted that there had been discrimination. When I mentioned the Equalties Act and the Sale of Goods and services act, did this obviously clueless individual decided to shut up.
This resulted in the owner and licensee "Ann" turning up enquiring what had happened, when I explained the situation, Ann explained that the tables and benches had been moved for their Carol service and not been moved back. Not that, that is any form of excuse but just highlights that the staff at the pub has a lack of awareness, consideration and training. However, good service and training starts from leadership from the top. Ann did not offer apart from an obligatory apology, a drink on the house, (both myself and guest were drinking cola and lemonade) or even offer for my car to be moved to the disabled space. In fact, it would be interesting to know if Ann has ever offered a drink on the house to a dissatisfied customer, and was I overlooked because of my disability and/or the colour of my skin? Needless to say, I would not recommend this place again which in my humble opinion is extremely...
Read moreVisited for lunch with a friend. Poor and at times frosty, strained service, staff didn't seem very happy or interested in making it a good experience, we gained the impression it was a place for locals rather than passing trade, any warmth being reserved for the known faces. Both ordered the small portion of Cheese Ploughman's with chips. Arrived with a very generous amount of fresh cheese (2 x brie, 3 x cheddar, 2 x blue cheese) but only half a rather skinny baguette - either we were meant to eat the cheese 'raw' without any bread, or really there could have been less cheese and just one full sized baguette each (the economics did not make sense, bread being cheaper than cheese). When we asked for more bread, staff seemed frosty and said that as it was a small ploughman's it only came with half a baguette. We were told another baguette could be heated up but were made to feel awkward, the emphasis being on that we would be charged and did we really want to go ahead? When the second baguette arrived no eye contact was made with us, the plate just handed to us with no word - we were made to feel awkward and annoying, When the bill arrived we were charged £2.85 for the additional baguette - and butter - though no butter came with it. The chips tasted bland & fatty and were unappetising. The menu had something very sticky all over it and I had to go and wash my hands. I ordered filter coffee but was served weak coffee made with milk. I couldn't be bothered to complain, All in all this pub has a nice exterior with great gardens and lovely flower displays (even though it was raining the views outside were good) but the interior is shabby and needs updating, The menu is very basic and there is very little choice for vegetarians. (We passed the White Lion on the way which was closed for a refurb and due to open the next day...the staff there were a complete contrast - warm, polite, and welcoming even though they had to turn us away - we will definitely be trying that pub when it re-opens). Unless you live in Corley and the waiting staff know you, I suspect you won't get a smile or a good service in the...
