We (Family of 3 - 2 adults and a teen) stopped off here for dinner on the way home from visiting friends. The place has a lovely atmosphere and decor and our initial impressions were very positive.
Things started off well, we were seated quickly, ordered taken and first drinks and food arrived fairly quickly. It was all delicious and well cooked. Can highly recommend the bacon cheeseburger which our teen ordered. Possibly one of the best burgers we've had at any gastropub type place. I had the honey beef sizzler which was also really tasty and OH enjoyed the new york chicken. I have an unusual food allergy which they managed well
Unfortunately the service here really lets the place down as it is very chaotic, slow and haphazard. There are lots of wait staff milling around or stood at the bar and it wasn't particularly busy but they don't appear to have zones so tables get missed and others get over attended. We were missed after our mains, waited a very long time to be offered desserts, eventually gave up waiting and went to the bar to ask for the dessert menu. Waited a good while then for someone to take the order but they didn't come so again we went up to the bar only to be told they would come to our table. When finally they came we ordered 2 desserts and another drink and they took ages and we had to ask about the drink again when desserts were ordered as it had not arrived. The desserts themselves were lovely, but not worth the huge wait and hassle. We then had to wait again for someone to bring us the bill so we could pay and leave. The service experience really changed our initial impression of what had been a good experience foodwise. We would probably not come back as although we enjoyed the food, the service just ruins it and would put us off visiting again.
This place would work much better with bar order service but if they insist on continuing with table service only they need to put a lot of work in to get it right. Its unacceptable to have some tables being treated to brilliant attentive service while others get forgotten about and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited on 8th September as a party of 5. Walked in to a table with hand sanitiser and a sign asking to wait to be seated. Good start, unfortunately that's where the positives end. Stood for ages and nobody came to seat us. Had to walk into the restaurant to get someone's attention, we were then finally seated at the far end of the conservatory. Door near our table was open but constant foot traffic from people going for a smoke which could then be smelled quite strongly from our table. Drinks order was taken, reusable paper menus put on the table which then stuck to the table as it was so sticky. No hot drinks of any kind available as machine was broken. After 30 mins had to go and ask for someone to take the food order. When starter finally arrived then had to ask for cutlery. Website stated servers wore visors, but the young man who took the food order and also delivered our food wore no face covering at all and got too close. Gap between starter and main was painfully long, when it finally arrived one of the dishes was missing so had to wait again. Also had to ask for cutlery again. Meat was bought out but not the salad and mango sauce that should accompany the dish. That finally arrived but no mango sauce and no sign of a member of staff for the rest of the evening. We were not asked if our meals were OK or if we wanted any more drinks. After finishing the food which was sub standard, no one came to clear the plates and see if we wanted anything else. When someone did finally turn up and had the nerve to ask if we were finished we pointed out that we had finished ages ago and quickly asked for the bill before the staff vanished again. We asked for a discount due to the poor service which he didn't even have to think about or check with anyone before he offered 20%. I can safely say that we will not be visiting again and would not recommend this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter emailing about a booking and not recieving a confirmation from them i decided to ring them due to being worried that it wasn't available. Spoke to a lady who said it wasnt booked in so she put us on the books for the following evening at 8 as there was availability.
Showed up the following evening to be told we weren't booked in again. How i don't know as i had definitely rang the correct place.
We were seated, ordered our drinks, which we recieved quickly then ordered our food.
One hour and 20 minutes later. No starter. The couple opposite us had been served both their starter and main as my husband had pointed out to me. We also hadn't had anyone come up to us to offer us a refreshment for our wait. At which point a waitress (the waiter that had served us had disappeared) came upto us and gave us complimentary drinks and told us that we had been forgotten about.
Obviously, i know you were busy, but being forgotten twice and having the poor waitering staff running around like lost chickens was rather frustrating. Clearly there is no order as to who is seen to and by who, you're just anybodys responsibilty.
Finally our starter arrived. We both had ordered garlic breaded mushrooms (5 mushrooms) and a JUST lettuce. Mains arrived. Steak was lovely but again the side salad was disappointing to say the least. And because we had been forgotten about, a lot of food had ran out by the time we got served so was only served half of what was put on the meal.
This was our first time here, as my daughter had recommended it, and it was my birthday.
If a bit of order was put into place and if it wasn't so understaffed it probably wouldn't have turned out to be a bad night. But unfortunately first impressions are what matters in the restaurant business and this wasn't...
