In all honesty I came here with great expectations as I’ve seen how fancy the restaurant is on social media platforms and it’s been refurbished to a high standard we missed it twice as the main road sign was not working, so we drove on to the carpark which is off the side street not off the filling station entrance. We went in side greeted by a smart gentlemen and shown to a table that was only a two seater despite having a little one with us so it was 2 seater table with 3 people’s food also no children’s menu provided which was disappointment ordered our drinks and poppadoms they came relatively quick but bare in mind we hadn’t ordered yet, it took us another 10-15mins to get attention to place the meal order. The starters had arrived not bad another 15-20mins wait for the main meal when they had arrived saw the jalfrezi I was deflated no sign of fresh chillies was barely slightly hot also the curry tasted of spicy tomato soup I’m guessing the chef must of put a spoon full of tomato purée in going on to the Rajastani lal mans had better, came with infused charcoal sitting inside the curry in a little dish it was just average, the egg fried rice was dark brown for some bizarre reason and the naan bread was on small size. The plates were cold too I don’t know if that’s how they serve them cold because when it’s a new restaurant the policies change too. The serving lads were good when they were around but I think more care should be taken in service the manager should keep tabs on these little things when we finished our meal the the plates were not cleared it’s these little things that puts you off not having a nice coffee or desert, it’s a shame it has service charge we got charged £7.95 definitely not worth it overall fabulous looking restaurant 10/10 Service 5/10 Food 5/10 Hope you can rectify these little niggles nothing can never...
Read moreWhen i go to a restaurant for the first time and place an order i do not then expect when the order is bought out to be asked what is missing, and then because i ordered items that i had never tried before be shouted at by a very impatient waiter as i couldn't remember which rice i had ordered. This was likey caused by the person who took our order, who was not really paying attention. No reminder of the rice sundries was offered he just kept saying "just tell me what you want" i eventually just said give me fried rice. The rather small plates that were on the table when we arrived which i thought were for the starters were the ones we were left with to eat the main menu items on (for the extortianate prices i at least expected warmed plates ?). Now the food prices ! The stand outs were :- £1.50 per poppadom, £4.50 for chutney, £4.95 for the smallest nan bread i have ever had at any restaurant and £5.95 for mushroom fried rice ! To be fair the main meals were a reasonable price, so what you have here is a very clever pricing strategy where the cheapest items to make cost the most. Drinks prices were even more ridiculous with the standout being the Pineapple cobbler at £6 for what turned out to be pineapple juice in a glass full of ice. The music was too loud which caused diners in the restaurant to have to shout at each other to be heard, it was like eating in a nightclub. Finally they add a service charge to the bill which always annoys me, we did however pay it as we just wanted out to be honest. So to summarise its style over substance, a very clever pricing strategy and a place that we will never...
Read moreWe visited your restaurant as a party of 3 last night for the Elvis tribute night. We had the set menu and started with the mixed platter which was tasty and then went on to have the Murgh Balti and Prawn Curry, again tasty. We are frequent visitors to Indian restaurants and have been to some of the top restaurants over the years. Our experience at Simla last night was mixed as even though the food was ok we did have to wait along time in-between course and felt that that there was a lack of organisation by the staff, we did want a sweet and did have the menu but nobody came back to take our order so the restaurant lost out on sales as we did not order in the end. Portions were also very small and we were a table for 3 but felt there was only enough food for 2 and 1 of our party did not have rice as there was not enough. We all felt that everything was very expensive which is good if you are getting value for money. We understand that it was a busy night but felt that if the staff had been allocated zones in the restaurant and did not have as many tables to manage, they would be more alert to the customers needs and would cut the waiting time down and increase sales for the restaurant.
Elvis tribute was excellent and found him very entertaining, funny and a good twist on previous tribute acts we have seen and he really played to the audience with his cheeky innuendos. We will definitely be returning for another dose.
I hope that the Management take on board the reviews as Simla is a lovely restaurant with really nice staff and it is good but it could be fantastic with a few...
