A pub we've been visiting for a few years on and off. It's a one mile walk across some fields from Ashby and a very pleasant one it is too. Depending on the time of year you can walk by sunflowers or spring lambs whilst taking in the odd alpaca. So far so good. Continuing that theme the staff are friendly and alcohol choice is not bad. Inside the pub is also decent enough. My gripes are with the outside area and the food. The small beer garden is littered with ash trays which at times is overwhelming when smokers arrive en masse. Now we can debate the nanny state and rights of others but I personally don't want to suck in cancer causing fumes which the entire area allows. The food.is also very basic. If you enjoy carbs with more carbs smothered in stuff then you'll love it. The flat breads are basically square pizzas from the 1990s. I had egg ham and chips, the eggs were overcooked to a rubbery powder, the chips were the greasy type your nan made in 1978 fried in that encrusted silver pan which stayed permanently on the hob. They used to have food trucks which I personally preferred. All in all ok...
Read moreI really enjoyed an absolutely scrumptious, delicious Sunday roast lunch that consisted of superbly cooked and tender slices of Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes, Parsnip, with was accompanied with additional mashed potato, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, carrots and jugs of gravy to compliment everything 😋 The service from the young staff members was superb, professional, friendly, helpful, and courteous at all times, and a credit to the pub 👏 👍 A lovely pint of pedigree ale before the start of my meal was brought to the table, and a very enjoyable Pudding of Fruit Crumble with hot custard finished the whole meal off wonderfully. A lovely, busy atmosphere with nearly every table taken made the experience worth this 1st visit, and I will look forward to a return visit at some point in the near future. 5...

I can be quite a big drinker and my worry was my glass would be empty all the time, that wasn't the case. In 90 minutes I had about 8 pints, a shot and my flat bread with real home made chips. Eating those chips made me feel like I was 5 years old again!
My partner was drinking prosecco and her glass was never empty.
The day staff were lovely and the night staff were funny.
A friend joined us later in and ordered chicken nuggets and garlic bread. The chicken nuggets were made with fresh chicken and their batter. Nothing frozen!
Great...
