Feedback for Ferrers Arms – Visit on 3rd September 2025
I visited Ferrers Arms on 3rd September 2025 with my husband, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing.
On arrival, we noticed the bar screens advertised 10% off drinks, but this was neither explained nor applied when we ordered. When I mentioned to the blonde-haired lady behind the bar (wearing her hair in a long ponytail) that we had a 7:30pm booking, she was unwelcoming, abrupt, and her manner came across as rude and intimidating. She showed us to a table that did not feel properly reserved and offered no further assistance other than telling us to order food at the bar.
The menu indicated that orders could be placed via barcode at the table for a discount, but this system did not work. When we returned to the bar to order, we were served by a young lady with dark hair who was polite, pleasant, and attentive. She asked about allergies, and I confirmed I am allergic to shellfish. I initially ordered fish and chips, while my husband ordered the 8oz sirloin steak.
Shortly afterwards, the young lady returned to inform me that scampi and fish are cooked in the same fryer. I appreciated her checking, but this raised a genuine concern about cross-contamination. I initially said it was fine, but quickly reconsidered and went to change my order. Unfortunately, I again had to deal with the blonde-haired lady, whose dismissive and unprofessional attitude continued. Rather than handling the situation discreetly, she shouted into the kitchen to “Hold that meal” before returning to tell me it had already been started. There was no apology or reassurance provided, which left me feeling very uncomfortable given the seriousness of allergy-related issues. I ultimately changed my order to a chicken burger with fries and coleslaw.
Regrettably, the food itself was below standard. The chicken burger was mediocre, the fries unremarkable, the coleslaw tasted old, and the hash browns were soggy.
Overall, the visit was let down not only by the quality of the food but, more importantly, by the poor service and attitude of the blonde-haired lady. Her behaviour was unprofessional, unwelcoming, and unacceptable in a customer-facing role. By contrast, the young dark-haired girl demonstrated the level of service and attentiveness that should be expected.
This was a disappointing experience, and based on this visit, we will not...
Read moreWe arrived 5 minutes before our due time of 1pm. A server came over after a small queue had amassed behind us. She took us to our table gave us menus and took our drinks order. And told us the soup of the day and pie of the day. Within a few minutes brought our drinks over. 20 minutes later I went to the bar and asked was anyone going to come and take our order. She apologised as she believed her colleague had taken the order. I placed my order but what my partner wanted was unavailable ( would have been nice to be told what they didn’t have when they told us about the soup and pie ) my partner chose something else instead. By the time the food arrived we had been there for an hour already. We ate our food and the two ladies behind us were at this point waiting for a desert which they ordered with their coffees. After they had been waiting for around 20 minutes one of the ladies popped to the bar to ask when their ice cream deserts were coming. A few minutes later a colleague arrived to asked what ice creams they actually ordered as I assume it hadn’t been logged or he had forgotten. A fees minutes later their desert arrived. Soon after the same gentleman came to take our empty plates and we asked for the bill. He then arrived moments later to take payment. We would have possibly stayed for desert if it hadn’t taken so long to get our meals and also the other ladies waiting so long for their desserts. My main reason for coming was to check the place out before booking in the doggy breakfasts that you do. However after my first and what will be my last experience in your pub I will not be booking or returning. I don’t know the ins and outs. You may have been busier than expected although it wasn’t busy. You may have had staff call in sick and were short staffed. You may have had new members of staff learning the ropes but it was a shockingly bad experience that I will not...
Read moreNot the best unfortunately. We came for the first time for our anniversary meal as we wanted somewhere close by. We waited 10 minutes to be seated despite it not being very busy and having pre-booked for an early afternoon slot. We then had a long wait to order which was fine as we understand sometimes it can be busy or one area is particularly busier for a short period. We ordered everything in one go to prevent further delays including drinks, "while we wait" snacks (which are a specific area on the menu), starters and mains.
25 minutes in to our booking we still hadn't received our drinks and we were then informed that they no longer had one of the starters. My wife didnt order anything else as we would have the snacks along shortly and that would see her through until mains. Unfortunately, they didn't bring out the "while we wait" snacks until they brought the starter out, defeating the point of this section of the menu and both items were cold and the calamari was very overcooked. The table behind us complained of the cold issue with their food too which shows it wasn't an isolated incident on this day.
We informed the server following our starters and we were offered a replacement, but as we had already eaten them it felt a bit of a redundant offer.
Our mains arrived quite promptly after and were hot so clearly we had some attention given to our meal after the complaint. However, not enough attention not to serve a boiled potato that had already sprouted. Whilst obviously not a huge negative, i do feel this demonstrated the lack of attention overall and the whole experience has sadly made us not want to return despite ot being in a good location...
