Popped into this lovely pub after visiting Calke Abbey. Didn’t know the area but saw the signs for the pub and very glad we found it. From the moment we went in the staff were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable with any questions I asked. The pub is nicely decorated with a tv and pool table too. We didn’t go outside but from what I saw from the window it looked clean and nice. The waitress who took our order was pleasant and helpful and the food arrived promptly. (We were first in at 5pm) The food was perfect and very tasty, proper home cooked not microwaved. I had the veggie sausage and mash with lashings of gravy, my daughter the cheese and tomato pizza. I then had the sponge pudding for dessert. Which was amazing. The service was 10/10 my daughter even knocked over some of her drink and they refilled it for me which I appreciated. Read moreWent for Saturday lunch, four of us and the dog. We were all made welcome by the friendly staff and other patrons.
They have a small selection of real ale, the Timothy Taylor was good and seemed well looked after. We ordered a couple of starters to share and they were tasty. For mains two of us ordered fish and chips, one had lamb shank and I had steak and kidney pudding. Glad to say the food was excellent value and delicious.
This is the sort of pub that's not easy to come across now, happy to serve those who just want a drink and a chat or those that want to choose something from their extensive and interesting food menu.
If it's important to you, they are genuinely dog friendly.
We will be coming back to the Cross...
