Phoned on a Friday afternoon for a table for 2 for around 6:30pm. Call was answered polity and was told we could have a table at 6, said that is ok but may be a few minutes late, no problem sir was the reply. having never been before it was an easy place to find, on the main Loughborough Road. The building is a very traditional pub and the inside also speaks traditional, very cosy and quaint being suitable for all types of clientele. Greeting was prompt and courteous and we were shown to a small snug where our table was. asked if we would like a drink while we viewed the menu, very good selection of real ales along with your usual lagers and of course the spirits and soft drinks as you would find in any establishment. Order was taken again promptly. After a wait of approx 20 minutes our food arrived, hot and nicely presented and it was tremendous, both my partners and mine was cooked as asked, very flavourful, not over or under seasoned, portions were spot on as we both ordered a desert, something I don't usually do and the deserts were just as nice and well presented as the mains.Overall a very enjoyable meal with matching surroundings and staff, I will certainly be visiting again and will recommend to others. Thank you to you and your team for a very enjoyable...
Read moreMy family and I haven't been to the george in a while as our last visit was quite dissapointing. However, things seem to be back on track now, and the food was back to being tasty whilst not leaving you emptying your wallet. I had the steak and ale cobbler for a main and it was very tasty but the cobbler was really dry and took all the moisture out of the dish making it hard to finish sadly. My dessert was amazing though- ginger toffee pudding and icecream was so so good and such a good portion to. I was beaten by it!
Service was friendly but I think more staff are needed as the bar was left empty alot as the people working served food or took orders. Also didn't ask for drinks when providing dessert menu despite our glasses being empty. I think the layouts odd too- the large table was put my more intimate seats so all the noise from a big party of people washed over us on our smaller one! Made it hard to hear. The ladies also need some tlc- cracked tiles, lamps with flys trapped in, and a toilet that had the remains of the last visitor- maybe need a cleaning rota put in? Just small touches now I think and they'll be...
Read moreSunday roast July 2019. Disappointing. Hanging a few paintings under brass lamps and exposed wood beams not quite enough in a pub restaurant. Food. Needs. Standards. Lifting. Chef needs to be a bit more generous with the beef and puddings and under-chef needs to try and look less surly while wandering around with bags of flour. One flaky sliver of meat, some perfunctorily assembled veg and a nominal supermarket-sized Yorkshire with a pint for 17 quid? Think again, George Inn. And distinctly average - not a quality vs quantity argument, so don't try it - middling taste and texture at best. Male serving staff meandering around slackly, taking refreshment in public areas - slovenly, and could do with a lesson in comportment. Not a good look. Poor value for a single male diner on a Sunday but feels like so many places now - you aren't deemed worthy of effort because you aren't bringing in minimum of 4 covers. So don't bother. Taking the...
