I visited with family for a birthday celebration and we had a large table of 15 guests, so understandably, there was a request to pre-order. On arrival, we were asked if we were ready for our food. We waited around 50-odd minutes until we finally started to receive it - not a good start. I ordered fish, chips & mushy peas and, quite frankly, instantly regretted it. Even those around me said it looked awful. When putting my fork on the fish, it flaked apart in strings. The portion size wouldn't feed an ant, my chips were soggy and anemic and the whole of my food was lukewarm, at best. Everyone else's food was also lukewarm but they still tucked into it, largely because many were mac & cheese & lasagna. To give an idea - by the time I was able to ask a waitress to take it away, my son had already eaten his, saying, 'it was nowhere near too hot so easy to eat it quickly."
The waitress served everyone else's food while I waited for mine and then realised I didn't have mine, apologised and came back with it. It'll start with this - it looked very bad; however, despite the portion size not fit to feed an ant again, I didn't want to be "that person". I don't like doing so as it is.
What happened to The Chase providing decent sized portions? This isn't a one-off either, as I visited last week for another birthday meal and the portion size wasn't even adequate! Woeful.
NEXT - It is currently 03:05am. I have been awake since 2am, doubled up with stomach pains and, well, let's not go any further than other to say, I'd like to be sat on the sofa but I'm shat on the toilet. Thank you đ
And while we wait for the Manager to ask me to send an email, I'll share the questions I'm sure others here would like to know:
How long have your portion sizes been unreputably inadequate? The only food worth ordering is the burger, but the reviews indicate that your staff can't cook beef!
When serving food, especially fish, questions need to be asked why common sense does not prevail. 15 plates of food were BLATANTLY left aside and forgotten about after having a 2nd roasting under the lamp. WHO THE HELL PUTS GREENE KING PROFITS BEFORE THEIR CUSTOMERS? A poorly operated establishment does.
I'm positive Greene King enforce a "final check" policy for when food leaves the kitchen, which leads me to believe the intention was to send overcooked and cooled down, sub-par portions.
I absolutely DREAD sending food back to a kitchen in fear of tampering, food poisoning or whatever else. I am not suggesting anything has happened here but given how poorly I am right not on this Saturday morning, I thought it was worth a mention.
ÂŁ34.97 for mains & ÂŁ19.17 for desserts is a substantial wedge and with that wedge, you'd expect a reasonable amount of food. My saving grace is that I'd dread to imagine how poorly I'd hav been if they served the food at a respectable portion size. Let's not get started on the drink prices, hence why we had one!
It's such a shame that a menu created by the brewery cannot be propped up by good quality service. Twice in a week on I've visited recently and after last night and my current situation, it will MOST CERTAINLY BE THE LAST.
I think you need inspecting. I suspect things are very different to the 5 star rating of your last inspection,...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 nights in September 2021. I cannot fault the service or the staff, so attentive from the moment we arrived, to the time we left. We were never made to feel unwelcome.
Now, I would like to talk a bit about the food. Our first night, we had the Hunters Chicken. It was okay but that was as good as I can give it. The chicken was 2 very small pieces with a bit of bacon and small amount of cheese on one piece only, the other was plain and very dry. I've had better in other establishments. The second night was Fish and Chips which was very nice, have this and you won't be disappointed. The third and last night was Lasagne with Dirty Waffles. The lasagne was very nice but the waffles came as chips, the topping was a little on the burnt side and they were served in a cold dish and were warm at best.
We stayed and paid for B&B, something we don't normally bother with but wanted to treat ourselves.
The room was great, clean and tidy and well stocked with everything needed. Normally in other hotels, we end up short of this and that but not The Chase. Now for the breakfast. This is served until 9am and we went down at 8 to 8.15 each morning. Despite our arrival time not being the end of service, on the first and second morning the majority of items had not been replenished, we had to ask for white bread to toast, there was only blackcurrant jam, there was only 2 croissant on a plate and no other pastries. The hot food was nice enough. The third morning was everything you'd expect, the was pastries galore, muffins, brown and white bread, all flavours of yogurt. It was so much better than the previous day's.
Now the main reason for staying at The Chase was to celebrate a belated birthday from May 2020. We had tickets to do a factory tour of the Triumph factory. I must say that was an amazing experience and I would recommend it. This is based in Hinkley and is just 3.5 miles up the road. We also went down to the National Motorcycle Museum which is 35 minutes away.
To sum up, a great stay with warm welcoming staff, within easy reach of shops and museums and I hope your food meets your...
Read moreThis was our second time staying here, again for an event at the nec which it is very handy for. We paid £79 b&b for two, which I think is reasonable. The rooms are recently decorated and are immaculately clean. The decor is similar to some boutique pub with rooms I've stayed in, but cheaper. The room is cheaper though so lovely for the price. Bed super comfy. Our specific room this time had a couple of quirks. It's the room at the top of the stairs, I think 17? It's an inter joining room and there is no sound proofing between the rooms because of the (locked) door. We could hear both sides of the conversation our neighbour was having. You can also hear what's happening in reception. So it's noisier than the room we had last time. The bathroom is tiny. When you open the door it hits the toilet. You have to go into the room and kind of hang over the bath to close it. With this in mind, will we stay again? Absolutely. The rooms are lovely, and very clean. The staff are outstanding. The lovely lady on reception is a miracle worker. This was a last minute trip, and who knew you needed to book a table on Thursday night? At Chase you do, it was quiz night which is clearly a well loved local night. Our miracle worker took us through to the bar and the super awesome guy in the bar managed to magic a table for us. Dinner was fine, expected bar style food. With bygof burgers and 20% our total food bill it was also a steal! All the bar staff were cheery and friendly and truly a credit to themselves and pub. I will say that they did seem quite light on staff across the board, but the team working there manage a great experience in spite of this. Breakfast was fine, chef does a good job but some ingredients should be better quality e.g. sausages. As per a couple of the other reviews some of the continental breakfast items ran out and the coffee was cold, but again staff excellent. A reasonably priced, clean hotel that we would stay in again (although would request a...
