Turned up on Mother's Day in the faint faint hope that they had a table free. We got there in perfect time and managed to have a lovely table near the bar. The food here is simply amazing. I do feel sorry though for the lady near our table who had sausage my labrador burned a whole in the side of her head starring at her. It did work though 😂😂😂😂
I just love how homely this place is

Bad day at the office today, went with my family and we'd all been looking forward to a Sunday roast all day and a night at athe Church has always been one to look forward to, not tonight.
We arrived at the pub to find that our table was really dirty with food all over it, not the best start. It was cleaned as soon as we made the lady aware.
We wait close to 45 mins for our food (appreciating that we were eating at Peak time). However, 10 mins before our food came, we were told that there were no more Yorkshire puddings and that they would just top up on everything else. We accepted given the time we had already waited. When the food arrived, to say it was bland was an understand very little veg and what was there was under cooked. There was no taste in the meat (beef and turkey) and it was clear that my plate had been under a death lamp as my gravy had a skin on it (i should have sent it back).
I made the staff aware who asked me "how much have you touched." We hoped pudding could salvage the night, but alas no, the only saving grace was that it was substanially hotter than the main. I went to pay and saw that the mains were still on there and the gentleman behind the bar stated that we hadn't been charged for the puddings which was a nice gesture, it just would have been nice to have an acknowledgement and an apology.
We have had many many many lovely meals at The Church Inn but as i said initially most certainly a bad day...
Read moreThe pub itself is nice with great views outside and the staff were really friendly. I'd been told that the food was really good, so I was looking forward to it. The dish that appealed most was sold out, so it was a toss up between two things. I decided to go for the cheeseburger.
For £10.50, I was expecting something pretty special. What I got was a bun with two thin beef patties like you'd find in the frozen section of a supermarket covered in a big lump of what tasted like supermarket own brand budget cheese.
For my sides I ordered "Salt & Pepper" chips (£4.50 compared to £2.25 for regular chips). Whoever came up with that idea must never have had salt and pepper anything, as they were nothing like! They were just chips with a few friend onions, a small piece of green pepper, and the lot had been dusted with what tasted something like Chipotle seasoning (chilli & smoked paprika).
Ultimately, very disappointing. Even the beer couldn't save it. I had been told there was a large selection of bottled beers but they were nowhere to be seen, so I just went for a pint of the St. George's Bitter which tasted like it I'd expect a Supermarket's budget bitter to taste. One dimensional and characterless.
People I know have had good meals here, & there were lots of reserved tables, so maybe we caught them on an off night or maybe they just need to refine the menu a bit as there's no way a pub can sustain such a large menu without a lot of it being frozen & cooked to order. Unfortunately, I won't be giving it a second chance, as there so many other places to...
Read moreWe were unfortunately disappointed with our experience yesterday at the Church Inn. It has got a good reputation and it was certainly busy when we arrived. Lots of families and dogs are welcome too, although a couple didn't seem to like the fact the other was there. Yes dogs barking can have the same effect on one's inner calmness as unruly children. The food was nice.. When it eventually arrived. We hadn't kept a timing on exactly how long we waited but the table next to us had just had their soup delivered as we arrived, then they ate their Sunday roast and it was when their pudding arrived and we hadn't seen anything of ours that we asked. It was brought to us almost immediately and the food was warm but not hot. The home made rag pudding, chips and gravy was lovely my friend was disappointed with the sirloin steak as it was very dry. We feel the food had been left standing. Had we not been very hungry and also on our way to another engagement we would have asked for the food to be replaced. I did tell the waitress however when she asked. The last disappointment was that I had finished my first beer just before the food arrived and so had to get up to the bar for another as they didn't do table service. Conclusion.. Nice food.. Poor service. Not worth the £25.00 we paid. There's nicer...
