Went to the Cross Keys for the first timein a well. The tableware bookedfor 5.30pm and we arrived on time. We were seated at our table and asked the waitress to give us a couple of minutes while we decided on what we wanted. We ordered our food at 5.45pm, by 6.15pm, we asked how long our food would be and they said that itaouldbe another 15 to 20 minutes, mean while two tables which had ordered after us got their food.
We asked the waitress what nonalcoholic lagers there were, to which she answered that she thought that she thought that thry didn't have any nonalcoholic lagers. We asked her to find out, she returned stating thatnthey didn't have any non alcoholic beers but they did have Guiness 0 and Birra Moretti zero. A comment which drew numerous looks from the other clients.
Anyway 6.30 and our food arrives, my wife and I both had Sunday roasts and the plates were both chipped and dirty. When we challenged the waitress she said that thr plate wasn't dirty. We refused to eat the food until we had fresh food on clean plates, the waitress took the food away, we then had to wait for a further 20 minutes.
When the food arrived, it was confirmed that the food had been freshly prepared and were we happy and we said that we were.
10 minutes now a waitress who had served us came back and said "are you happy now!" I was so close to putting my knife and fork down, I thought she was rude and clearly had no skills in doing the job.
The food on the whole was tasty, hot and was nice however the lack of service and acknowledgement that errors had been made means I wish I had asked for money off the bill (something I had heard other people had done) and also I will.not be going back a real...
Read moreHave been coming here on and off for years but not since the new people took over. To be brief - we went for a quick tea and ordered cheese and onion pie - NOT CHEAP as they've hiked the prices up and the pastry was literally stuck to the plate, very stodgy and I nearly choked on the cheese, so stringy - just awful so I complained ....(i dont like to have the mickey taken) ...The dish was obviously OLD and had been microwaved. My husband had the same dish and was starving due to having work meetings all day and had not eaten - he managed half of it and left the rest reporting to the landlord that it wasn't great !. The landlord had the cheek to inspect the dish as i gave it back to the girl - how rude !!! - I've eaten in michelin starred restaurant and not been treated with such ignorance. If the landlord spent more time checking the kitchens and how the business is being run rather than propping up the bar drinking with his mates he'd do better for it. Lovely pub in a lovely location but in my opinion run by amateurs. We have since been to THE CHURCH just before The Cross Keys and had a very good experience receiving excellent...
Read moreWe have been here before and loved it, and we went again, and not loving it so much. It's changed management, was very disappointed in the menu - (no vegan/vegetarian options - not that we are but for heads up) just literally pies, baguettes and Sunday lunch. The food was okay, nothing exciting. They have stopped doing starters as we was told the management want to turn over an extra 10 tables every Sunday... mains was okay, the desserts were nice, but limited 3 out of 6 weren't available. They don't serve coffees anymore. My pet hate, waiting staff, moving plates before the whole table has finished. Charged £3 for a can of coke (multipack aswell, sandalous!) Felt rushed and won't be revisiting unless they re visit the menu and teach staff how to wait...
