Kingfisher Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Plymouth

Like most people, went with high expectations to Kingfisher, Chaddlewood in search of this fabulous dish. Result. Below average and disappointing, particularly if travelling any distance, so beware. There are so many chip shops far better than this, as you will discover yourself. They might have won an award last year, but signs are they have become busier, and complacent. Fish was average, but could taste the oil which was unpleasant. Chips below average to poor. Curry sauce not absorbed the base mix properly, contained a large indigestable lump. You don't see the salt and vinegar going on and as a result I could only taste a little salt, and no vinegar whatsoever despite ordering it. They had NO tins of Coke, despite arriving at peak time 5.30-6pm. Nowhere to sit and eat, despite the pictures online, all spaces taken by customers looking bored waiting for their food. Just under nine quid for fish, chips, curry sauce, bottle of fizzy drink. You're still going to go to check it out, but my advice....

Wow wow wow! Blown away this evening. Have had food from Kingfisher twice in the past which was ok, but tonight we ordered for delivery on the app for the first time. We got a call shortly before the end of the delivery window to apologise and let us know they were very busy and our order would be at least 15 mins late. It was 25 mins late in the end, but well worth the wait (and at least they took the time to call!). I had hake, my husband had a burger and we shared a medium chips. The hake portion was generous and not greasy, and the chips were just right. Homemade tartare sauce was perfect. Blown away by my husband’s burger, not at all what you’d expect from a fish & chip shop, looked like a Brewdog or Five Guys burger! And by all accounts it tasted as good too! I also had the churros with chocolate sauce, wasn’t sure they’d be any good delivered, but they were excellent too. Definitely going to be ordering again...

Has this place been taken over by new management or something? I have in the past had great fish and chips from here, but last Monday I went in and bought fish and chips for my family and I just couldn't belive how the service and food had changed, and certainly not for the best!! The girl serving couldn't care less and messed the order up. The cod I swear I thought was a battered sauasge it was so thin and small, and the chips was dreid up and tasteless nothing like they were before, yet was still the sky high price charged for it!! (Nearly £19.50 for 3 x cod and chips if you could calll it that!!) I only left one star because I couldn't see an option to leave none.

It is a shame after the awards and how it used to be. Please take on staff that look like they actually want to do the job and are interested, and please go back to how you used to do the food. I won't be bothering to go back anymore after my...
