The Cherry Tree Pennycross — Restaurant in Plymouth

Okay, this pub is never going to set the world on fire, but, for a local type pub for the football it serves it purpose well. There is a definite "frequented by locals" feel about the place, and you can tell that the corner of the bar is where they all hang out. That is not to say that they are not a friendly bunch, as they are more than happy to make chit chat whilst you are waiting to get served. They serve food too and although I personally didn't have any, the guy adjacent to me had a Sunday lunch and it was gargantuan and smelt like proper home cooked food. Drinks I thought were reasonably priced - £3.50 for a double and mixer. The barmaid was a jolly and friendly character. I felt quite comfortable sat at a table on my own watching the football with my drink. It was my partner's birthday yesterday and we went in there for a few pints. My mate bought the first round then the barlady decided to ask my partner for ID after my mate got the drinks in. My partner showed the barlady her citizenship card but she refused it and told us that we had to drink our drinks and leave cuz no under 18s allowed in after 7PM. It was her 29th birthday yesterday and it was a shame that this happened. We go up the Cherry Tree quite a lot but not anymore, you have lost our custom. My mate also asked for a refund for the pint of Coors as my partner wasnt allowed too drink it, they was reluctant to give the refund but they did. I didn't like the barlady's attitude as she was so far up her own backside it was unreal. There's doing your job and there's being a jobsworth. Thought I would come in here for a birthday drink. Was pleasantly surprised. A lot of years pimco I came here. Changed a lot and for the better I may add. A lot of space both standing and seated with outside if weather is good. Good selection of drinks on offer. And very well priced with some good offers. Felt a little sorry for barmaid as it was very busy and she seemed rushed of her feet . But to her credit and the pubs she managed it. Lots of TV if you like sports .
