Received a promotion on my app, last day so drove to this Toby. As I entered a little after 3 in the afternoon I was told no walkins today. I asked again as the place was empty, I was one person and wanted to sit outside. No! After insisting to speak to the manager Kerry reluctantly came to speak to me. How is this person a manager, she said no without giving a reason whilst at least eight of her staff, some in whites stood about doing nothing. The food was ready to serve with no queue and hardly a soul in the place, Toby you are going out of business treating customers like this. Avoid. Customers also need to know this Toby has a rat problem, my dog nearly caught one when we came in. The general manager replied, saying the issue was they did not have enough meat, I was not even asked it I wanted meat, guessing vegitarian food is cooked with the meat! Don't eat any small black bits. They did respond to me directly, and just showed contempt for their customers. Still at least I didn't have to eat the slop they now serve up.

Meat was amazing. Had gammon, beef and pork. Yorkshire pudding, gravy, carrots, mac and cheese, all incredible. Pub itself has an amazing atmosphere, bar staff super friendly. The sausages were terrible. Like breakfast sausages that were kept under a heat lamp for 3 hours, put in the fridge and then reheated for dinner. Disgusting if I'm honest. And the roast potatoes were clearly overcooked and reheated resulting in that dry burned taste where the skin is kinda like cardboard. Disappointing for a Toby. Why the roasts and sausages were allowed out im unsure. The server at the carvery tonight also looked so unbelievably depressed. I do hope they're okay. I also overheard a few things which makes me believe management may have some issues with their culture and how they treat bar staff. I do hope I'm wrong about that.

First plate that came out, stone cold spuds. Asked the bar maid to clarify, even she said. Wow yeah. They’re cold. Miserable looking young lad chef that walked out gave us a big load of side eye as he gurned his way past the table. Second plate that came out, warm spuds but a wrap swimming in oil. At that point, I didn't touch it. When it came to paying. I showed the waitress the oil. She agreed it was very oily, but then charged me full price. I asked if that included the plate of oil. She replied, shall i take it off?? I replied yes. Im not paying for that. We promised ourselves we wouldn't step foot in this particular Toby again, but thought wed try it again as its on the way to the moors. Wish we hadn’t. And that really is the last time. Home of the roast?? No. This home of the worst roast

My family and I visited last night and will not be returning again. At first everything was fine and we were told that we would have to sit in the bar as we hadn't booked, the member of staff was polite and friendly but that is where it ends. Once we had had a look at the menu I went to order at the bar, and was greeted by a huge sigh and a yep! I asked if I could place and order and as I was saying the table number the member of staff turned around and walked off out the back, returning a little bit after back to the till with another yep! I asked for a diet coke and was snapped at with a " so you want a refillable yeah" ordered the food and drinks and was then given the cutlery. I had ordered 3 child meals and one of those was the 3 sausages and Yorkshire pudding, I was told that this would have to be collected at the same place as the carvery. In the queue for the carvery the person serving meat called someone forward asked about plate size and then said " before anyone bothers asking there is no more sausages for the kids meals, we have run out" to say he looked fed up was an understatement. The sausages were for my Autistic son who won't eat any other meat so I went back to the table to let me son know and my partner said he would talk to the person who took our order as it would have been handy to know this before paying £85 for the privilege of being shouted at. She said she would investigate and then.......yeah nothing she didn't come back my partner had to ask another time if she had any information, explaining the circumstances. By this point I was back in the queue waiting to be served ( there was one person serving meat who smiled at customers and was very polite, he took over from the other chef for about 5 minutes) while at the front getting my meat the person who served us came over to the chef and said " do we have sausages yet? I have a table waiting for them" she was greeted with a just being finished. Someone then brought them out to the front and she asked for them because my son was waiting. Clearly the chef didn't know it was for my son as when he gave her the sausages he said " right here, but their only having 2 sausages, I don't have time for this" i went back to the table with my food and was completely disappointed with the quality, it was chewy cold and tasteless. The cutlery was dirty and we weren't given enough so I asked for more and that seemed like it was too much aswell. Honestly other than a few moments this was one of the worst experiences of mine and my families. It looked like all the staff had reached the end of their teather and it reflected in service. We...

We are from Cornwall and booked as a special occasion as we don’t have a Toby’s Carvery down here for 8:30pm after our cinema trip, upon arriving, we were shown to our table and the bartender who I have a lot of praises for on this occasion, took our drink order & served us them but unfortunately no one came to our table to take our order, 20 minutes passed and I had to eye down a waiter to grab his attention. We was told to go up to the carvery, the “chef” if you could call him that, was sweeping the carvery floor on our arrival, if you’re booking a table during opening hours, you expect a place to look open, but to me, it felt like we was a hindrance because he had to stop sweeping to serve us. He served my partner a rather FATTY bit of gammon, which I wouldn’t even feed to my dog! Surely as a chef you’d know what was and wasn’t acceptable to serve a customer. A very apologetic lovely waiter got some turkey for him instead but was on the dry side! All of the vegetables had dried out, well, what was there. There wasn’t a very wide spread of vegetable available, we was almost getting the “left overs” from the busy Sunday rush. A waiter was clearing the gravy section, again, if you’re expecting bookings, why clear things? How can a place who specialise in a usually good carvery fail, I mean you serve a carvery 7 days a week, how can you not get it right? I had to then request Yorkshire puddings because again, there was none on the hot counter. The Yorkshires were obviously left over and warmed through when requested because they had that very soggy texture to them, no crisps at all. The advertised “chipolata sausage” was far from it, could pass it off on the menu as “a cheap tasting sausage”. The stuffing was unbelievably undercooked, in fact, if you’re willing to be on the toilet for ten hours, that’s where you’d be heading after eating that!! Can I add, the bartender(who greeted us) served himself up a plate and on our way out to pay had even made the same remark when he politely asked how our dinner was, if the staff acknowledges it, that says it all! One very disappointing experience and a heap of wasted petrol to...

This place was really disappointing.

First off booking a table for a large group was the biggest nuisance. Couldn’t do on the phone and couldn’t do online and no one replied to the email we sent.

The waitress who served us seemed really disinterested. It took 30 minutes to get our first round of drinks ordered and delivered to the table. When the food order was taken we were left in limbo on what to do, we weren’t told how things worked where other tables were so we sat for a few minutes pondering, eventually we went up and joined a small queue for the food

The chefs were polite and friendly but the food was old and tired. The beef was full of chunks of fat making it inedible, the yorkshires sat in a pool of grease, the potatoes were cold and wrinkly and the stuffing had a solid thick dry curst on it where it had been sat under the heat too long. The vegetables were acceptable.

The condiments needed refilling. We asked for gravy as the bowls were empty and where told to use the one labelled vegetarian as its normal gravy. We moved this to the right place make sure vegetarians didn’t consume it by mistake.

We ordered a side of pigs and blankets and they were horrifically burnt, shrivelled and dry. The bacon wasn’t even wrapped on the sausages for most. They tasted off and weren’t eaten. These were taken off the bill as they were so bad.

During this time our server was changed to a young lad, he was more attentive, friendly and polite and turned things around from a service point of view.

We had desserts which were ok but nothing special, had our earlier food been better I think we would have enjoyed these more.

The venue was a bit tired, the wall our table was against had what seemed like mould causing paint to peel. The heating was on full blast where we were sat which made it feel like a sauna experience.

I appreciate a carvery is a cheap meal and wont be the highest quality ingredients but fresh, hot and edible food should be provided.

I...
