Great news: the Seine Rigger I used to know is back! Back to the top quality fish, batter and deep frying, and back to the way it used to do things. Back in the safe hands of family ownership, back to using the previous ingredients recipes for batter, and back to its mission to provide the best at a fair price.
We went to the Seine Rigger for lunch yesterday and both of us had a large cod and small chips; one of us had a side of excellent coleslaw, the other had perfect mushy peas. The cod fillets are towards the shoulders of the fish, not the cheaper tail end, the batter was light and delicious, and the chips were just right.
We were looked after by the delightful Chantal, now the manager at the Seine Rigger. She started her restaurant career with the original owners, and then went through all the changes demanded during the takeover that focused on reducing cost at the expense of quality - the customers noticed those changes, and went elsewhere.
Now she's managing the Seine Rigger for the new owners, making sure everything's the way it used to be. She and her team are determined to restore the Seine Rigger's once famous reputation, and on the basis of our experience, that's going to happen. And just to prove that point, the shop front and fascia are being revamped as well.
Life and business are all about change, and I for one am so pleased that the place that was my top choice for fish and chips is well and truly back - and in every sense...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve always appreciated the food at Seine Rigger, and I have to say that under the new management, the quality has massively improved. The dishes are fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavorāsomething that truly sets this place apart. Itās evident that a lot of effort has gone into elevating the dining experience through the menu.
However, despite the fantastic food, my recent experience left a lot to be desired when it came to customer service. When providing feedback regarding a payment issue, I was met with a passive-aggressive response, which made the entire situation uncomfortable. Good service should go hand in hand with great food, and unfortunately, this disconnect overshadowed my visit.
Itās such a shame that the customer service does not match the high standard of the food. Because of this, I wonāt be returning, which is disappointing given the improvements in the kitchen. Hopefully, this is something that will be addressed, as the potential for Seine Rigger to be an exceptional dining spot is definitely there.
There are some factual inaccuracies in the response from Seine Rigger. However, this is not forum to share them. All I would suggest is that the payment methods which are now accepted are displayed more prominently.
Under the previous ownership American Express was accepted & this caused confusion. I wish Seine Rigger nothing but good fortune with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUtterly rubbish quality, avoid this place unless you like eating your food 1 disappointing bite after another.
The Nork Way Seine Rigger used to be well known locally to be fantastic. Used to be great when the owners would put decent quality food first. Apparently been sold to deep blue, a chain that seems to use JJ cash and carry budget range, yet charge premium prices for it.
Sad, Dry Chips: They were limp, lifeless, and dry as Jacobs crackers. It's like they had been sitting around for ages, waiting for someone to rescue them from their misery. I wanted light, fluffy chips, that smelled of vinegar, but what I got were sad excuses for chips that belonged in the bin, and no vinegar as it had dissapeared into the sawdust that was shaped into chips.
Roadkill sausage: If you enjoy the idea of eating something that resembles a soggy pillow filled with questionable mystery meat, this is the sausage for you. But if you prefer your sausages to have actual substance and flavor, I'd recommend running in the opposite direction. It's a true champion in the category of "culinary disappointments."
Not the restaurant staffs fault, more corporate greed. Put this place out...
