Owd Betts — Restaurant in Rochdale

Booked a table here on a friday afternoon for the following monday evening at 8 o'clock. The chap on the phone was great, very helpful and told me the table was booked for when I requested. Great! looking forward to an extremely rare night out with my girlfriend, child care was booked and we duly got washed and ready and headed out on a lovely spring evening, on the way I was thinking about the first sip of my lagar Shandy I would order on arrival. My partner said she couldn't wait as she was starving! We arrived and parked up in the lovely empty car park, exited our car and walked to the door to be greeted by a sandwich board on which was written 'we are closed on mondays for maintenance, sorry for any inconvenience' . This was meant to be a belated birthday meal for my partner who was more upset than I was angry and annoyed. To sum up food, service, atmosphere and staff ect may well be the best in the world. I wouldnt know though because one of them is a liar...or a moron. I just hope its the latter, at least...

I visited the Owd Betts inn a long while back . Finally got round to visiting Owd Betts inn again today 22/08/2024. I can honestly say it’s a great country inn . The open fire was alight when we went in which was fantastic as it was quite breezy outdoors and chilly . We actually booked a table as it can get really busy . We was shown to our seats by a lovely member of staff, Our drinks order was taken. We were then left to look through the menu . My grandson chose the cheese & tomato pizza with chunky chips from the kids menu . I choose onion pie with chunky chips and beans , my mother chose rag pudding chunky chips and peas . Well I can say we all cleared our plates not a drop left on them . The food we had was absolutely delicious everyone meal was cooked to perfection. Not sampled the food when we arrived yesterday We called in on chance but due to Mother’s Day it was fully booked next time definitely. However both my wife and myself who are both elderly and disabled we both unfortunately had a fall in the car park due to my error in failing to set the handbrake correctly. The car rolled on undamaged without doing any damage. However both my wife and myself ended up on the ground in the car park. I phoned the pub and immediately two ladies Ellen and Hannah came to our rescue. They both helped us get to our feet and walked us to the pub. They sat us down and brought us tea and a portion of dessert. To regain our sugar levels as we were both in shock They looked after us both with such kindness and compassion Thank you both to these two wonderful ladies.
