(reviewed October 2021) A Rare 10/10 Restaurant A little bit 'out of the way' for some, but when you see the building, you just know the food is going to be special.
And we were not disappointed at all - in fact, it surpassed our expectations.
Before I start on the review may i take this moment to commend the courtesy and attentiveness shown by Emily who attended to us throughout our time there. This young Lady deserves a 10/10 of her own. Thank you.
Drinks: White house wine, soda and ice, Lager.
Starters: Homemade Farmhouse Pate (Liver, Chicken & Pork), Salad with Pomegranate seeds, Onion chutney, Toasted bread and butter. Soup of the day - Tandoori spiced Creamed Chicken soup with Parsnip and Apple, Toasted bread and butter.
My partners eyes lit up when she tasted the pate, and when I sampled it I totally agreed with her.. it was absolutely superb, the very slight coarseness enhanced the flavour. the rest of the starter was devoured - with grace.
The Soup of the day, I was informed, a new flavour being tried out for the first time that very day. I would simply say, keep it on the list as a regular. The Tandoori flavouring was not overdone and added 'that little something' that certainly got my attention and taste buds working nicely. A really pleasant surprise.
Main Course: We both enjoy varieties of fish so settled for the Pan fried Sea Bass, chives and garlic butter. New potatoes slightly roasted. I will say this now. I have tasted Sea Bass Pan Fried, Steamed and Baked in a number of restaurants both in the UK, Europe and Asia.. and there is no doubt this was the best I have ever tasted. Both of us agreed - it was flavoursome, succulent, fell away beautifully and complimented everything that it was served with. Two clean plates were all that were left.
Dessert: A good selection, but we both have a penchant for Salted Caramel ice cream (something my foodie partner got me hooked on to - thank you). Served in lovely sundae style glasses with a dusting of icing sugar(?) on the inside -a lovely touch. Needless to say, the glass dishes were emptied.
The preparation, cooking and presentation could not be faulted
Well Done - you all deserve...
Read moreI've heard a lot about this place previously but never eaten there before. I was expecting it to serve tapas but it has changed to a grill earlier this year. Having recently turned vegan I made sure to check first that it had a selection of vegan options or at least one and so when I saw the TripAdvisor description that it had vegan friendly options I felt assured that all would be well. Unfortunately, due to the change from a tapas to grill menu I guess those vegan options aren't available anymore.
The lady who owns and runs the cedar tree was very helpful in accomodating me though and provided me with some roasted vegetables (although this was a slightly blander option than I would have liked if other vegan options were available). She also assured me that she would update the TripAdvisor profile so that it no longer advised that it offered vegan options. Since I went I can see that it has been updated but in the cuisine section it still says that they have vegan options. I guess she overlooked that section.
Anyway, I've learnt my lesson to always check in advance as info on websites and review sites may be outdated but they were very helpful and it is a nice...
Read moreI visited The Cedar Tree with my family for a special birthday and was blown away by what an incredible gem this place is! There’s a lovely cosy feel to the whole place. The food was lovely and while we all had different starters and mains, I lucked out by ordering the Salt and pepper calamari which was just awesome. The hangin danglin skewers were also amazing.
Whilst the restaurant was quite busy (first Sunday of spring) I couldn’t fault the staff. Our server was so friendly and efficient and yet unobtrusive. Just the right balance.
For the price paid, this has to be one of the best value for money meals we have had in a long time.
Overall, delighted to have discovered this gem of a place and we will be returning...
