I'm actually rather disappointed that I'm having to write this review. My wife and I take my elderly mother out for lunch most days, so we get to experience quite a number of local cafes.
We first visited here on 01st May and ordered an omelette, a chip butty, a toasted teacake and a pot of tea (for my Mum). Menu prices were higher than we would normally pay, but we were willing to 'give it a go' anyhow. After about 10 minutes, a waitress arrived with Mum's tea and a payment card machine, asking me to pay there and then - I thought that was very odd, but figured it must just be their policy, so that's fine. The cafe was reasonably busy, so the fact that we then waited around 35 minutes for our food, I just put down to exactly that - it's actually a positive when a cafe is busy as it shows their food must be good (which my wife thought her omelette most certainly was) 2 other diners sat near us were less impressed with their wait though - they'd long finished their lattes before their 2 plates of salad were delivered and were quite vocal about how disappointed they were in the speed of service. Anyhow, I put it down to a 'one-off' because of how busy the cafe was.
Today, we returned - arriving to a near-empty cafe at just after 1 o'clock. We sat at one of the 2 tables the waitress offered us and browsed the menu. Around 15 minutes later, the waitress came over to ask for our order - omelette (my wife really enjoyed it before), this time 2 toasted teacakes and the usual pot of tea. A couple of minutes later, the same waitress popped over to mention that there would be a small delay for our food order, as the cook was preparing another omelette before my wife's. Mum's tea was then delivered to our table after 10 minutes, this time by a different waitress and, again, I was asked to pay - that was at 13:29, according to the card receipt slip. So, considering the cafe was nowhere near as busy today as on our first visit, the 30 minute wait, this time, for our food to be delivered was surprising and, quite frankly, unacceptable. Honestly, had it not been for the fact that they'd asked for payment in advance of the food being delivered, I would have walked out after 20 minutes. If this is their typical mode of operation - get payment first so "it doesn't matter how long the food takes" - then it's dreadful customer service. Either they need to hire additional staff or kit out the kitchen with more facilities - it should not take 30 minutes to prepare 2 omelettes. So, as lovely as the food is and, in fairness, how lovely our first waitress was, my family and I will not be returning - there are plenty of other cafes in Rotherham that know how to deliver a quality food service and for...
Read moreHaving not been here for a few years I won't be visiting again .sorry but the manager /owner of the cafe has such a bad attitude if you complain if your food isn't hot ! My friend ordered soup n a sandwich which came out lovely and hot but my order of a panini n chips came out chips first then painini a bit later on only to be cold chicken in the middle ! N cold mushrooms ( I ordered a chicken n mushroom n red onion panini ) to find it was cold in the middle ! I sent this back only for them to bring the same panini back out Having just been put back under the panini machine for the outside to be heated up but still tepid in the middle ! I didn't eat the rest of the panini I didn't want a dickie tummy .I was told by the owner or manageress that you can re heat chicken has many times has you liked because it was cooked in the first place ! I told her I wasn't eating it ! To what I was told she couldn't refund me just because I didn't like it !! I told her I wasn't arguing with her because of the cost ! Has we went to the till to pay she told me she had taken the price of the panini off the bill .I said thank you but for her to continue on how many times cooked chicken can re heated !!! I wasn't there for an argument I was there to have a nice afternoon with a friend. The atmosphere and surroundings are lovely but I think the lady in question would like to take advantage of taking a course in people skills and not come accross has so defensive and argumentative she may get a lot of better reviews n not negative ones like this one .it's a few years since visiting this place and it will be quite a few years before I would like to experience customer service like this again ! I would gladly have paid for food served n left it without saying anything but this ladies attitude was certainly worth a review ! The rest of staff were smashing. Sorry after this visit I won't be...
