We had this restaurant recommended to us so we made a dart for it on Sunday 29/04/2018, we had a table reserved and sat down to enjoy our us time without our 2 dogs and our 7 month old baby boy..we decided to choose a starter as well as a Sunday lunch. The starter was chicken liver pate which seemed very crumbly so couldn`t get it on the 2 pieces of toast we got served, would have preferred some kind of cracker but was lovely all the same.
The main meal came out which was Sunday lunch, looked amazing and was well presented, veg followed straight after including our sauces and gravy then we tucked in to our meal. As i got further in to the meal, i found out the beef was a tad cold along with the veg and gravy. Still had the meal as i`d been up since 430am with my little boy due to teething so would have eaten anything put in front of me!! The waitress came asked if we had enjoyed our meal, which we mentioned about the coldness of the food and she would mention it to the kitchen. We paid our meal which was £56 and left. Was a bit shocked at the amount but first time for everything. We had come all way from top end of Barnsley as it was a huge recommendation to us. Not sure if we will rerturn, if we do it will be only with dogs and our little man for a walk round...
Read moreWe have been here twice now. First was a few weeks ago for my daughter’s A-level results. We were a party of 8. It was a nice visit and despite the sever being new and having to deal with a party of 8 he did just fine and the food was good.
Todays visit for our wedding anniversary was not so great. We had decided to come here based off our positive experience a few weeks before. This time only 4 of us.
They had obviously forgotten my son’s pizza as this arrived at the table later - minus the French fries. We didn’t mention this though. The issue was that it seemed under cooked. The base was quite doughy.
They had also forgotten our side of onion rings which I had to ask for. These came out later and straight away you could tell that they too were undercooked from just the colour (or lack of) and the raw taste inside was further confirmation. I would much rather they just apologised and told us there will be a wait, rather than bring out poorly cooked food.
Also my wife’s burger, despite being over £20, was very ‘gritty’ in the middle.
Overall, the prices are quite reasonable and the restaurant is pleasant and clean the quality of the food though...
Read moreReally enjoyed our visit yesterday evening. Our table ordered starters including the breaded brie, fresh bread and calamari starters, I had the latter which was really well prepared, all of the dishes were generous portions and were enjoyed by all of us. We ordered gammon, scampi and the mushroom pasta dishes for our main courses, again all of them were beautifully prepared and very generous portions. I'd struggle to find fault, the refurb has made the pub much easier to negotiate around for dining. The Beehive was already a lovely pub in a great spot and although they've changed it, they've retained and in some cases improved the things that would have made me want to visit such as the beer, food and atmosphere. As for other comments made here previously... price... It's not as cheap as some pubs but it's very reasonable nonetheless. If you want a cheaper meal, there are a few other choices nearby but I'd argue that the food will lean more towards pre-prepared and generic. Our wait was again reasonable and service was prompt, we spent around 1 1/2 hours there and had a drink as well as our meal within that time. Looking forward to coming...
