AVOID IF YOU WANT TO GO FOR A FAMILY MEAL!!!! The new owners clearly aren't interested in families. Myself and my family went for a meal last week and they were happy to take our money until they weren't. My 15 year old nephew was with us and a staff member marched up to the table at the end of our meal and pointed at my nephew and said "How old are you"? There were plenty of adults to ask but she asked a minor making him feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed. When my nephew replied with his age the staff member said "you all need to leave as he can't be here after 9.30pm" Had this been done in the right way by either telling us when we first arrived or not serving us a full round of drinks at 9.22pm this wouldn't have been a problem. I said that we need to finish our drinks and inquired why they served us the drinks with an 8 minute window to finish them. I was told it was the law and we had to stand outside in the dark with our drinks. Obviously this wasn't going to be an option so I said "When we have finished our drinks we will leave. I was told again that 'this was the law' with a very bad attitude from the member off staff. I replied saying that if it was the law and she found it necessary to ring the police to ring them and she actually RANG THE POLICE. Another table couldn't believe that they had rung the police. Before the police arrive we had 2 managers and a member off staff stood over us being very aggressive. Firstly we had spent a lot of money in there and secondly what a waste of police time. The police were very understanding from our point of view but had to stick to the establishments contract. Again if they had approached us with the right attitude and not served us the last round of drinks without having time to finish them this wouldn't have been a problem. We will absolutely not...
Read moreWe’ve been to the Droppingwell many times over the last 10 years and unfortunately last night was the worst food we’ve ever had there.
Although the food arrived piping hot (almost too hot), the taste was not good. My boyfriend had a mixed grill. Most of the meat on the plate was dry and he needed ketchup to make the meat edible and add some moisture. I had the chicken trio burger. The coated chicken pieces were really nice but it was let down by the plain chicken which was again dry. The chips are tasteless. To be honest we’ve had better quality meals in Wetherspoons which is known for being a cheap eat. My boyfriend said this was the worst mixed grill he’s had in a long time. He does have his steak well done but this one was beyond well done. Apple pie was good. The chocolate fondant is not a chocolate fondant, there was no liquid, gooey centre. It was basically a chocolate sponge. I was also disappointed they’d run out of the Bailey’s & toffee cheesecake when it’s a main menu item.
When you have The Barley and The Mill Dam near by taking the time to cook food fresh and doing home cooked chips, The Droppingwell falls really short. I’d rather wait longer for a good quality meal. There is no comparison against the other pubs in the local area and we probably won’t eat here again which is really disappointing.
Staff, service, and the atmosphere were brilliant. The Taylor Swift/Katy Perry tribute was amazing. I would happily go back for a drink and the entertainment but not...
Read moreWell, what can I say? We attended tonight, a party of 10. One of our party was known to the 'acting' manager, and I use that term loosely! From the outset a vendetta was waged against my Granddaughter, who is 17 and was drinking a desperados, which was ordered with the meal. The said 'manager' approached our table, and quite aggressively said that she wasn't allowed to drink what she had, though offered no alternative. I should say that my Granddaughter had a relationship with her nephew, who proved to be a complete waste of time, hence the vendetta. The said manager then scoured the CCTV, waiting until the girl had a sip of the said drink then pounced again, both times rude and un-cultured. The second time she did decide that they were alternative drinks that could be purchased...why not the first time one wonders? All the party were then refused drinks at the bar... absolutely no issue...we shall now take our custom elsewhere, and we shall also not only ensure that anyone we come across that thinks they might like to go there will be diverted elsewhere. As a former Restaurant manager I believe that there is a correct way of handling situations, none of which were used in this situation, and of course they are always happy to serve my Granddaughter with G and Ts before the rest of the party arrived, and also at weekends, only when the acting manager is there it seems... I...
