Terrible and here's why... Wednesday, 6.15pm it wasn't busy as such, pretty steady I'd say, found a table, it wasn't clean but it didn't have glasses on it like the one next to it, both of us went for something basic, the "classic burger" Went to the bar to order, one youngster serving wearing a denim jacket, not a good look really, two people before me to me served, also woman behind bar with headphones ( yep really) on doing something at the till; when she'd finished she looked up and elderly gentleman asked for... He got cut off with a brisk "I'm not serving" as she scuttled off. As we got served a couple of customers came to the bar, denim jacket now rushing about, made my order, the wine (red) was sploshed in to the glass and spilt over the rose it collected at the base as i noticed when back at the table... No beer mats... Food arrived after 30 minutes and denim jacket gave it food a tour of the pub asking two or three tables if it was theirs but he knew the table No (and he did take my order) caught him as it was heading back to the kitchen. Had to ask for sauces, none on tables or anywhere to be seen, two burgers on each bun, one dry the other ok on each individual bun, one hot, the other substantially cooler, the fries, basic, not all that hot. Other staff appeared later after denim jacket had collected some glasses, delivered (eventually )some food orders and serving at the bar, rush, rush, rush on his own. I remember one of the women being asked to do something but she stated she was already doing whatever it was.... Not a great experience, won't be going again, disorganised, poor food, longish wait for everything, poor quality staff (denim jacket did his best) and an utter shambles.... More staff (just one maybe and if they wore similar shirts/blouses, someone clearing and wiping tables down and maybe someone that can do basic cooking would be a start to improve this place. We immediately left after leaving about a third or more of the food... Went to the Horseshoes at Wickersley. The Woodman has a total monopoly on this relatively new village but surely it shouldn't take that position for granted, we won't be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen we arrived (5 minutes early) for our 2.45 table booking the situation was chaotic. We eventually discovered (by being proactive) that there was around a 30-minute delay, but we were offered complimentary drinks as recompense. We were eventually seated 35 minutes late. Once we were at our table the service was excellent - as was the meal. Overall, we were very satisfied with the experience. We would, however, suggest that when there's an event such as this (with pre-booked tables) there should be priority given to attending to queuing customers rather than just continuing to serve walk-ins and ignoring the former. At least there should be a system for registering arrivals, advising them how long a wait there might be and ensuring that they weren't left in limbo. The overall impression when we first arrived was that staff were totally out of their depth, with mountains of uncollected glasses and deserted tables that were still sitting uncleared. This did appear to be caused by a rush of the aforementioned 'walk-ins': perhaps a separate area could have been created for queuing diners. As I say, though, the eventual experience was very good, and we wouldn't hesitate to patronise the establishment in the future, or to recommend...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been barred by Holly from The woodman for expecting the food i ordered to arrive. Also I think Holly needs to understand the seriousness of expecting me to eat an allergy order that was incorrect. Absolutely unbelievable.
Thank you to the head chef Rebecca who was amazing and showed great customer service and fully understood stood why I could not eat the food that was given to me.
Holly on the other hand is disgusting. Not only did she bar me for telling her the item is not as described on the Menu she did so while screaming and shouting with a 2 year old cuddling me and my 1 week old nephew sat around. Her behaviour was unacceptable and unbelievable and has left all my family shaken.
Also to make matters worse she took the food back to the kitchen and we heard a smash so assuming she threw the plate of food which is aggressive and over the top for someone asking for the food to be remade.
What an absolute shame to have this experience when we as a family have been coming to the woodman since you opened. No need to EVER worry about me stepping foot in your...
